Absolutely stunning location to have unfenced campsites. On the way there we were surrounded by a large herd of elephant crossing the road, saw hippo grazing at +/- 600 meters from the campsite and we spotted a leopard right next to the road at 1 km from the site.
BUT,
the camp is quite expensive while you do not get any facilities. We got a campsite allocated but couldn't go there because there were already other people camping on our spot. We chose a place under a tree, were definitely had been camped before, instead. People were camping on random places that were not assigned camping spaces (with numbered signs) everywhere. The place we stayed was littered. I filled up half a garbage bag with the empty bottles, cans and packages that I found scattered around.
It is a shame that a lovely place like this is not monitored better. I believe that more than half of the people camping there did not pay, and its very easy to do so. The location is incredible, so I hope Khwai community will step up to actually do something about this, to preserve this experience for others.
Camped here under guidance and supervision of experienced bush guide and crew of reknowned safari company. Wildlife wanders through camp day and night, take considerable care to avoid encounters.
Amazing wildlife experience! Animals may walk though camp and hunts and the river are visible from the camp. No facilities present at all.
Amazing wildlife and landscape views, but be cautious around elephants and at night, hyenas and lions roam freely. An experience tour guide can make or break your trip, so book carefully.
Schöne Landschaft aber sehr überlaufen!
