Gaborone City council is led by His Worship the Mayor Kagiso Calvin Thutlwe, who took over in 2014.The First Mayor was Rev.J.D Jones whose reign was from 1966 to 1968. Gaborone City council has seen the leadership of fifteen Mayors till to date.

Gaborone City Council is tasked with providing the following services,
maintenance of street lights ,traffic lights ,
Pot hole patching ,construction of storm water drainage structures
Carry out day to day collection and disposal of domestic waste
Routine health inspection of business premises
Controlling industrial ,house and bush fires
Cemetry and Nursery Management , park bookings and hiring of open spaces
issuance of trade licences ,hawkers and vendors licenses
