Here are more tips for you on what to consider before buying a house.

What are the costs related to buying a house?

In addition to the asking or negotiated price of the property, other... costs to bear in mind include; • Value Added Tax or transfer duty (whichever is applicable) • conveyancing fees • structural and property valuation reports.

In addition mortgage lenders do not always fund 100% of the open market value of the property you are buying. In that event, you have to raise the difference between what BBS lends you and the price of the property.

You may also consider other areas outside Gaborone which have cheaper houses and land, such as Ramotswa, Modipane, Kumakwane or Rasesa to build your ideal home.

To learn more about BBS mortgage loans please visit the nearest branch or call 3971396.

Here are a few tips from us on how you can prepare yourself before you can buy a house.

    1. Measure your net worth: Simply subtract what you currently owe from what you own. No matter what you currently earn you should aim to save 10% of your earnings.

    2. Calculate your ratios: Debt to income ratio( how much debt are you holding as percentage of your salary)

    ...

Loan to value ratio: What is the loan amount you are applying for compared to value of the property you want to buy.

    3. Compile all the necessary documents needed to process your mortgage application loan.

Always prepare wisely and make sure your finances are in order before you go on to make the biggest purchase of your life.
