Such a beautiful spot to swim! Don't be intimidated by the swim either, it's very easy to swim under and into the grotto. If anything, wait till low tide to not have to put much effort to swimming in. Also, don't jump in from the top, erosion could degrade the grotto over time. You're not able to spearfish here but you'll appreciate the very friendly fish. Such a fun time!

Go at low slack tide. Beautiful. Bring dry dog food in a zip lock bag, let it get soft. You will see hundreds of fish. I am cold natured and was comfortable in a full wet suit. We brought our GoPro and got great shots. When the tide starts to come back in the current is very strong.

I've been here many times and can't get enough. In high tide is the best, but also the most difficult to find the entrance and get inside. It is worth it though because there are many more fish inside at high tide. Low tide has its advantages if you are not a strong swimmer and just want to see inside. I personally recommend fins and snorkeling gear to really get the full experience. There is a current here, so don't be surprised.

Beautiful and a few fishes to see. You absolutely need a boat to get there and having a guide is better as the entrance is a bit hidden. Good swimming and a bit of snorkeling experience required as it's a confined space and it has strong current at some places.

Pretty cool. You park a boat outside and swim into a hole, then you are inside a hollowed out rock with an opening at the top. This location was in a James Bond movie.

Really pretty but I would recommend going with a guide at least the first time. We had to hold on to razor sharp rocks on the way in because the sea was so choppy and the current was pushing us in. Then we had to dive under the rock to get out the other side, but I wouldn't have known to do that without a guide

The Thunderball Grotto off Staniel Cay is a magical place. I could not recommend a visit any more highly. A couple of notes to be aware of however: First, the location is NOT at Staniel Cay Yacht Club as indicated on Google Maps, but three tiny little cays north on the west side of the island which are accessible only by boat. If you go to Staniel Cay Yacht Club expecting to find the grotto there, you will be disappointed. Second, tides force water in one side of the grotto and out the other. When the tide is moving, you must be a halfway decent swimmer with mask and fins to swim against what might be a fairly strong tide. I also recommend gloves due to sharp coral, but they are not absolutely necessary. Watch your head!

Awesome fun for those who enjoy snorkeling!
Lots of marine life & tons of photo and video opportunities.
Somewhat advanced, so it may not be a great idea for people who are new to snorkeling or swimming :(
The rock walls surrounding the semi-submerged entrance are very sharp, so don't touch & watch your head!
I'd recommend bringing dive gloves if possible along with mask, snorkel & fins at a minimum.
Bucket list type trip & well worth a visit!!

Amazing snorkeling experience. Saw lots of fish including a lion fish. If you go at low tide it could be very crowded. However take great care if you go at any other time.
