We've been wanting to get out PADI Open Water Certification for some time now, and wanted to wait till we were in the Bahamas. We wanted a local family run experience and this is what we got. Karen and Nick made us feel very special and went to the extra mile with patience and care making sure we were comfortable with the things we were learning. When back in Freeport we will be booking more courses and more dives with these lovely people. Highly recommended.
We had a great experience with Nick and Karen at Sunn Odyssey! My son and I are new divers and Nick mad us feel very comfortable and safe. In addition to the great reef, we got to see sharks and a giant grouper came right up to us! Can't wait to go back. Nick even helped fix my rental car that had a loose battery cable after the trip.
Last minute cancellation by a different dive center left us in a scramble, luckily we were met with open arms by Sunn. They are kind of tucked away (from the busier areas of Freeport) which is nice if you have a rental car, or I am pretty sure they were able to pick you up if not. Got in four beautiful dives despite tropical storm Emily disturbing the week. Many years of incident free diving speak to the expertise they bring to a dive excursion. Always felt safe and cared for. Family owned and operated, the staff is the epitome of friendly. Note the cancellation policy as they are not able to be as flexible (in order to offer the intimate experiences provided) compared to experiences at larger dive centers in other parts of the world.
Had a great diving experience with my daughter Emily. We dove for three days and each time out we got to experience new dive sights and all had a variety of wildlife to see. My daughter loved the chance to dive with turtles and also had a blast with the number of sharks. Watch out for Karen in the office she is sassy. Don't ask her how she first met Nick. Nick was very professional in all the dives and made sure everyone was listening to the safety briefing and did a great job pointing out interesting stuff during the dives. Would definitely go again and recommend to others.
Great people to dive with. Been a customer for a few years now. I literally have nothing bad to say. Thanks for some great adventures!
Our family has been diving with Nick at Sunn Odyssey Diving for years and years. Seeing them is like seeing family. Nick, who just happens to be a Hall Of Fame diver, is definitely the best Dive Master I have ever worked with. He brings the perfect balance of fun and professionalism and always establishes an extremely safe environment without cramping anyone's experience. Karen, in the office, makes sure everything runs on time and does her best to accommodate special requests. Sunn Odyssey is a small, family-run dive shop with world-class equipment and experience. Skip the "big guys" and have an amazing day on the water with Nick and his incredible crew.
The dives were unbelievable, some of the best I have been on, but despite this I much rather would have chosen the same dive locations from any other dive shop in the world.
The experience was completely ruined by the horrid customer service. The entire trip my entire family was passively aggressively harassed by Karen and Nick, not to mention the several times that were not so passive. Any form of interaction with Karen was underlied with clear attempts at our sanity. The company advertises free shuttle services, yet complained and groaned about us requesting to use said service. We had a family of 6 staying at a hotel less than half a mile away, with hundreds of pounds of gear, yet Karen put up a fight telling us to just have the younger members of the family to carry everything the whole way.
For the dives, our shuttle pickups were at 8, which Karen repeated several times that we must promptly be standing outside our hotel at the exact time, which is completely understandable given dives can be time sensitive. After waiting at the curb for 15 minutes with no sign of Karen or Nick coming to pick us up, we moved to the balcony of our room to avoid the beading sun. When the van finally arrived, we moved down and started loading our gear only to be yelled at by Karen for being late. Absolutely ridiculous.
On our last day, we asked to rent 2 tanks to partake in shore dives. We asked what time they needed to be returned, to which the answer from Nick was before close the following day. We returned the tanks at noon the following day only to be greeted with an $80 charge, because we didn't return them in a timely fashion. They seriously charged us for an entire second day on both tanks because of this. Along with this, Karen complained that we had used too much of the air in the tanks that we payed for. Absolutely ridiculous.
Again the dives themselves were excellent, the locations are fantastic, but the service left much to be desired. Nick had his moments, but remained relatively level headed and kind throughout the experience but I wish I could say the same for Karen.
Do not use this service. There are plenty of other dive shops that will offer the same dive experiences without the personal attacks.
I booked a 2 tank trip with Sunn Odyssey Divers in conjunction with a cruise. I found that booking through them was cheaper than booking an excursion through the cruise ship, plus they limit the number of divers on their boats so you never have a "cattle boat" feel. Booking online was easy and they made sure to stay in communication leading up to the dive trip.
Unfortunately the day we arrived in Freeport, the wind had been blowing for several days and the seas were big. The owner of Sunn Odyssey Divers still drove to the port and met with us on time. He explained the situation with the seas and told us he would rather us keep our money and come back on a calmer day when it would be safer and more enjoyable. For this I have much respect for this company. It's not often these days that a company puts much before money, especially in an area that has so many visitors.
I can not wait to return to Freeport to dive with Sunn Odyssey Divers.
