Gems at paradise is definitely a gem. From the moment you arrive you feel at home. It's beautiful and very relaxing.
My wife and I stayed here. If you want a peaceful laid back place to go, Long Island & Gems of Paradise is a good choice. A lot of places to explore, so rent a car. Go see the 660 foot deep BLUE HOLE! When there, be sure and climb the rocks behind the hole to get a 360 degree view of the bay, beach and ocean. Take a camera! Want to have a special treat? Pay attention now Pack a small cooler & some smokes, and go back to the BLUE HOLE at night. Especially if the moon is out. Take a camera. There is a small cozy beach there. You won't need a flashlight if the moon is out. Now dig your toes into the pure white sand, & forget about trying to not get sand in your pants your on the beach in the Bahamas after all. Pop a top on a cold one & light one up. Now gaze up at the sky and check out the stars like you have never seen before. It does not get any better.. Absorb the fresh air & company of your loved one or friends. After consuming one cold beverage, next wade into the cool water with a fresh cold one in left hand, smoke in right hand. Don't worry, your in a lagoon, the water is shallow, so assure yourself & significant other, there are no sharks. You did not come all this way to miss out on a true once in a lifetime pleasure. Slip into the water & give your honey a kiss. Tell her or him you love them. Check out the stars again, take a long deep sip from the cold one and enjoy. You get the picture. Nature will probably take over from here. Girls, he must think your pretty special to bring you here. Hey why not get "lucky" at the Blue Hole, under the stars?
The local museum shows a lot of history dating back to the original settlers. Hang out at one of the several marinas and enjoy fresh healthy seafood. What is a Conch? Pronounced Conk. Order "Cracked Conch" and find out. You'll be glad you did. We found local beer for $2.50 a bottle at the marina & Conch Fritters for $4. What a deal Cheaper than here in Texas! Stop and visit the ruins of long ago plantations. Go to the far North side of the Island, climb the high hill and see where Columbus anchored off the Island on his 3rd or 4th day after discovering America. Imagine his boats anchored below you. His men rowing up into the lagoon to the South.
Stay at Gems of Paradise if you want good service, clean rooms, a good location and free use of the refrigerator to keep your food and drinks cold. These owners are local born and raised and make the whole experience fun. They keep a smile on their faces & yours the whole time you are there. They understand you may have gone to extremes to get there and they do not want to let you down.
