I enjoy visiting old forts no matter where they are at. Make sure to bring a camera and catch a picture or two of the awesome views. Walking shoes recommended.
A great view of the island but not much more. Only 3$ to enter and a short walk from the port so an easy place to visit if you are on a cruise ship. Be sure to visit the Queen's Staircase beforehand (the easiest way to Fort Fincastle is actually through the Queen's Staircase which is free to visit)
I liked the fort. It was just a couple of Dollars for entrance and there is nothing really special inside but you have a great few from up there. There is some information about the fort and it's history inside which is pretty interesting. Also once a day they have this show. I think it's some kind of "changing of the guards" sort of thing. Which is also pretty interesting to watch. They whirl around their guns in style ;) and the whole thing ends in (fake) cannon shot. It was pretty cool =D
There were great views of the surrounding area and it is only a short distance from the Queens Staircase. There is an entry fee to enter the fort. We had walked to the fort from our cruise ship and it was not that far of a hike. The fort is surrounded by older homes and some stores as well as a water tower that used to be open to the public but is now closed from tours. It is worth the hike just to see the breathtaking views of the entire island.
Great location (and history!) and within walking distance to cruise ship docks should you have the time and in good fitness. Visitors are typically not encouraged to explore alone but with a 'guide' (which may be unofficial), but still informative none-the-less. Expect to pay a tip.
We stumbled across this location while exploring the queens staircase. For $3 we were allowed inside and I thought it was pretty cool. The views were excellent and they had some awesome canons you could explore. The video history screen was broken sadly so we didn't get a chance to check that out. Over all, it's worth a stop if you are spending a day or afternoon walking around Nassau.
We did a Nassau tour, and this was one of the spots on the tour. it's interesting. The fort is shaped as a ship and it has a good view of the city of Nassau. I wish they don't charge you so much though just to enter and see this small fort. (They probably charge tourists just because)
I went there and it was fantasticthe people couldn't have been nicerlots to see and learn. Thirsty? Coconut water is not to far away.
Little fort on top of the hill, not much to see inside it. Nice view of Nassau and not that bad of walk from Bay Street.
Pretty neat spot. Walked here from the cruise ship. Has a pretty great view.
Nest architecture and beautiful views from the top of the hill, but overall little historical information and the tour only states local landmarks that are visible. Overall disappointed as we desired to learn more about the island's history than can be learned by googling.
It's a friendly tourist attraction and safe .I work at this place
I visited the castle late June this year with my family , i really had a good time with my wife , my grandchildren , and my son who planned our trip on the cruise
It was first time to the place , very interesting , WWE had fun and took plenty of photos , people are kind weather was hot .
Love the history and the view
One of the many historical places Close to downtown, about 5 - 25 minutes away from the cruise ship, depends on means of transportation.
A great historical site to see, easy walk from the cruise ships ( I suggest skipping the taxis, look how crowded the streets are ( fun game, count how many vans in the picture), it is faster to walk, plus you get to see other things like the queens staircase). Lots to see, and read about, but won't take up too much of your day (1-2 hours) Also lots of little shops nearby. many items are imports, but if you look you will find local goods, especially wooden carved items or hand woven things. Haggle for prices (I'm a bad haggler, and actually ended up paying a slightly higher price on a custom carved box than originally offered, my family still makes fun of me.)
Worth checking out. A unique experience and beautiful views!
Beautiful historical landmark
Really cool experience. Historical site.
Decent views of the island, but not extremely high. Not an incredible sight to see but probably worth checking out
Fort Fincastle was erected at the highest point on the Island of Nassau with artillery guns and an armory place within its walls, so that they could protect themselves from outside dangers. The Fort itself is rather small, you can cover it inside and out in 20 minutes, the real attraction is the Queen's Staircase, which is what the Bahamanian's built should they need to make a quick escape from the Fort.
If time is a factor, and you had to choose between seeing the Queen's Staircase or Fort Fincastle, definitely go for the Queen's Staircase.
Good tourist attraction with a great view of the island. Very small fee to get in and inside there was a gentleman that gave a good description of the fort and also described the island landmarks that were visible. Most people have him a tip for his time and it was worth it.
