As the most common cancer in men, Prostate Cancer can be successfully treated if detected early.

The chances of developing Prostate Cancer increase with age and weight gain, so be sure to get regular Prostate Exams the older you get and to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.

If you are a man who has trouble urinating, noticed a decreased force in the stream of your urine, have blood in your semen, experience discomfort in the pelvic area and bone pain, experience erectile dysfunction, or if you have a family history of Breast or Prostate Cancer, it is highly recommended that you schedule a visit with FirstCare's Urologist Dr. Joseph Evans in New Providence, or any of our General Practitioners in Grand Bahama.

Honored as one of the 100 most distinguished African-American scientists of the 20th Century, there's no doubt why Emmett Chappelle is today's #ManCrushMonday! In 1958, while at the Research Institute in Baltimore, Chappelle helped to create a safe food supply for astronauts after having discovered that one-celled plants such as algae can convert carbon dioxide to oxygen.

The next time you're on a plane and you press a button to grab your flight attendant's attention, think of today's #WomanCrushWednesday! In 1888, Miriam E. Benjamin was granted a patent for her invention of a gong and signal chair. The chair's key feature was its notification system which allowed the seated individual to press a button that would light up and emit a sound that would signal a nearby attendant. This was used mostly in restaurants, but was the inspiration for similar inventions that came after.

Smiling isn't only for selfies (although a good selfie has the power to make you smile BIG!)

Here are 3 extra benefits of smiling:

    1. Improves Your Mood: When you're feeling down force a smile! It may lead to a genuine smile soon after, and also help with anxiety and depression.

    ...

    2. Lowers Blood Pressure: Laughing exercises the heart muscles, which helps reduce the risk of heart disease.

    3. Relieves Stress: Smiling and laughing more often, whether you're happy or not, helps your body deal with stress and pain more effectively. "

"Going grocery shopping today? Be sure to add apples to your list!

Here are 3 reasons why an 🍎 a day really does keep the doctor away!

    1. Apples contain Pectin which is a soluble fiber that lowers blood pressure and blood glucose. They can also lower the levels of ""bad"" cholesterol in the body.

    ...

    2. Apples contain Vitamin C which boosts immunity and helps maintain overall health.

    3. Apples can also reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and asthma, as they are rich in phytonutrients, speficially vitamins A & E and beta carotene."
