I heard they would launch Chinooks full of Contras from here hell bound on the extermination of Guatemalan socialist democracies.
I was there from1968-71 my fathers company built the BOQ, Trailer park, my mother Helen & father Frank built the Ball Filed and had a road named after him Baxley.. Bill O'Riley was there as a teenager back then.
I liked it
Had great food.
Cool place. :)
I lived on AUTEC for 3 years straight, but spent every summer there since I was 6 to age 17 then I moved there and worked there until joining the military at age 20. It was a great place to find yourself. If your going there looking for love , you won't find it unless you live to fish and or drink alcohol. The girl to guy ratio was 20 guys to 1 woman. It was also I place of secrecy , if you asked to many questions about things you might have seen, you were given a pink slip and sent back to where you came from.
I was here in 1981 with RCA Service Co. Not much to do but drink, dive, and fish and ALL were great. The wall of the Tongue of The Ocean is remarkable. Blue Hole diving is an altogether different experience. Fishing is always good when you find them. - Article_86
