We visited this little hidden shop today. The shop owner Maria is really nice and she speaks perfectly English. She described how does the real aplaca look like and helped us to verify our previous purchases. We both bought sweaters with my wife and we enjoyed shopping here.
Great hidden place with real stuff! Recommended to visit for sure.
Unique Boutique gives a great modern appeal to such a traditional method of clothing. The dresses, in particular, are very on trend. It would be easy to wear them in almost any setting and feel comfortable and appropriate. The netted patterns on the back of the sweaters is a great statement, and it really gives the wearer the ability to add their own flair to the style.
The website makes it very easy for a shopper to see the selection and imagine how the clothing would look on them. It was very user friendly and I had no difficulty browsing around through the on-line items displayed. It is also great that they include their brief history and statement on the creation of the clothes on the front page. It is great to know that all of these amazing items are also helping support local growth.
Unique in La Paz is a very special boutique.
I'm an italian girl and I've been there 2 years ago. A friend of mine who was living there suggested me have a look in that shop. And I felt in love.
Something like "sacoponchos" reminded me of some clothes I had already seen in Italy, but the wool quality of the bolivian ones was so good.
I like the style and the quality of Maria Calzadilla's clothes, so I decided to buy the bolivian clothes in Italy. It has been very challenging!
So I bought some different type of clothes and I tried to sell them in Italy.
It should have been very difficult because everybody knows how the fashion in Italy is but it was a success! I did the same the year after and the people was very happy to find bolivian clothes again!
And the best is that alpaca wool is the best way to protect us from the cold winter!
This is a wonderful shop in the heart of one of LaPaz's most interesting neighbourhoods! I own 3 of the alpaca "sacoponchos", a sort of long, drapey cardi, and they're amazing. Alpaca is a wonderful wool--soft and light and warm. Perfect for chilly winters!
I am originally from La Paz, Bolivia and am now living in Vancouver. I make it back to Bolivia at least once each year and always make a point to visit this nice boutique in La Paz' touristic area. It's a small place but is full with an interesting selection of women's clothing and accessories. The dresses, skirts and sweaters are made from high quality alpaca or ovine wool. Be wary of the other shops in the area as many times the 'alpaca' products are fake or low quality. Last year at Unique I bought two beautiful alpaca dresses for myself and a few other items that made great Christmas presents. During my last visit I chatted with the owner and she was very pleasant and helpful. She explained to me that many of the products are made by the poor but hardworking women of the Altiplano. Another plus for this wonderful, little boutique in La Paz.
