Wow! We loved this place. We showed up randomly and asked for a tour, and an employee showed us through every stage of the felt hat making process, from wool selection to finished hats with trimmings.
We got a taxi to the location, but walked back into the main plaza. This enabled us to explore some streets we had not been down before. It is located kind of near the bus terminal, and you want to have the location on a phone map in case your taxi driver isn't too sure where to go (its on a quiet side street).
The tour was about 1.5 hours walking carefully through the various stages of production. Can't remember the exact cost, but kids are free and it was totally worth it. Certainly a tour for a few people at a time, and not a large group - maybe 5 or less at the most, mainly because some of the working areas are small rooms.
This is an old factory and you should not expect a pristine regulated environment as you might see in North America or Europe. It's kind of dingy (for the lack of a better word), which is the opposite of the vibrant hats they produce. We felt safe in each area we toured, and everyone working there was welcoming and liked having a child visiting. If you grew up working in a shearing shed, you'll feel right at home.
Our Spanish skills are quite basic and so it was challenging to get all the information when there are technical words to explain processes. Our guide was awesome and we all played with synonyms and gesturing until we got it!
As a small traveling family this was a great two hours in a unique place. If you don't know how felt hats are made, you can see it all and get your answers here! The main entrance is more a display room than a museum, but there are styles that reflect the different eras and cultures of the region if you look closely. They also have a legit leather Sorting Hat!
We totally wanted to buy a unique hat but we don't have the space in our luggage unfortunately! It would have been crushed in a few days. We certainly paid more attention to the hats worn by the locals after visiting here.response / report this review -

Este singular museo fue creado gracias a la iniciativa de los propietarios
de la sombrerería “Sucre”, oferta a los visitantes la posibilidad de
apreciar sombreros de los Siglo XVII, XIX hasta la época actual. En el
museo se puede realizar una visita guiada para observar el proceso
de fabricación del sombrero además de maquinarias antiguas y
