Peaceful and relaxing island, but it takes so long to get there and there are so few boats. It also takes 4-5 hours to get there from La Paz by bus because of all the road blockages.

The island itself is nice, a pleasant relief from the madness that is La Paz. Unfortunately, the villages on the island are fighting and tourists cannot hike the entire island. You're limited to a small section of the island which include the highest point on the island with good views of the surrounding area. The round trip hike is about one hour and there are no ruins to be seen on this hike. Just a pizza place on top of the island.
We stayed overnight at a hostel and left the next day on the 10:30 boat and the 13:30 bus back to La Paz. I can't imagine anyone needing more than one night on the Island.
It's important to keep in mind that this is a very long journey from La Paz. You have to take a 3-4 hour bus ride to Copacabana that leaves from La Paz around 5am to avoid road closures in the area. Once in Copacabana you need to take another 1.5 hour boat ride in a mostly uncomfortable boat to Isla Del Sol. I've never been on a slower boat for such a long boat ride.
These boats only leave two times a day in either direction: 20 Bs. going to the island and 25 Bs. coming back to Copa. The price of the bus to and from La Paz is negotiable. We paid 55 Bs. From La Paz and 40 Bs. Back to La Paz.response / report this review -

Overall, the island was a little underwhelming with plenty of hidden fees to go along with it (they have an island tax of 10 bolivianos per person).
The north of the island was also closed due to a strike between the north and the south so 70% of the island wasn't accessible and hasn't been for a while.
Once you climb to the top, you are given some pretty astonishing views but you definitely pay for it!response / report this review -

Wonderful island with great view on the lake!! A lot of boat from Copacabana (approx 20bob/person/one way). There is an entrance fee of 10bob and everytime you want to pass to another part of the island you will have to pay 10-15bob. Also be aware do to conflict on the island (a building been blow by local) there isn't any access to the north (or try to not been seen by tribe of the south)

If you walk from north to south you will pay 4times to pass each comunity, kind of strange (around 50bs in total).

Always worth a visit. We stayed there (Challapampa) for three days. Not that overrun as the south of zhe island. Farmers still do their daily job - next to us tourists.
