El personal es atento,pendiente de una recepción; pero al hotel le falta implementar su oferta de servicios internos; las camas son algo duras y no hay ventilación en las habitaciones. Es un lugar tranquilo, pero si quieres tomarte un mate dentro o una bebida caliente no encontrarás un termo con tazas disponibles para darte ese gusto.

I stayed here for a week to take a rest from touring Peru and Bolivia. If you are looking to get any rest forego the wild rover and go here! When you first enter you notice the two big courtyards. They´re a good place if you have kids or a group. The Receptionists were friendly helped me with getting around the city. The dorm was clean and they have lockers and a storage room for your things. There is courtesy breakfast every morning and the Cafeteria is open in the evening. I ordered the pizzas and bolivian beer. I wouldnt have picked another place to stay the week. Great experience in La Paz.

Mooi gebouw leuke binnenplaatsen maar verder is alles erg gedateerd slechte WIFI behalve op de eerste binnenplaats daar is de WIFI redelijk. Matrassen zijn oud en veren komen er soms door. Personeel is vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Al met al betaal je te veel voor wat je krijgt.

Dommage les chambres auraient besoin d un rafraîchissement. En plus il fait hyper froid. Sinon le cadre est joli et bon accueil.

Pros Vs. Cons

Pro:
Free toilet paper (I guess that's a pro)

Cons:
Overpriced
Noisy
Negligence in Maintenance
Very bad Wifi
No places to charge electronics in rooms
Belligerent and Rude Staff

I arrived to La Paz not feeling well and wanted to find a tranquilo hostel (aka not a party hostel). I was suggested Hostal República for being quiet and peaceful and although it was more than double the price of many hostels available in the area, I shelled out the extra for a dormitory in hopes that I would get a good night sleep and I would be feeling better in the morning.

Later that night a very large group of 50 or so people arrived about 10 pm. They made a some noise, but again it was still early and luckily they seemed to leave around 12pm and I was finally able to get a bit of sleep. However I was awakened at 3 am as they all returned to the hostel and began to congregate in the central courtyard- screaming, carrying on, and probably having a great time. Great for them, not so great for me who was sick and trying to sleep.

I heard music being played loudly and it wouldn't surprise me if the hotel allowed them at 3 am to use their sound system. Although I was upset, I didn't feel up to going downstairs sick, in the middle of the night, wearing nothing but my boxers to make a complaint. I chose not to do so because I didn't want to be singled out as the party pooper, but also I really felt like it was the obligation of the hotel and not me, the "guest".

I stuck it out in the bed trying to somehow get some sleep and hoping that the noise would quiet and the party would end. Everyone else in the dorm that night tossed and turned, unable to sleep. At nearly 6 am the party seemed to wrap up.

I however couldn't go back to sleep so about 7 am, myself and 1 other guy in our room went downstairs to make a complaint with the receptionist, who as it turns out was a very unpleasant person who probably has a some problems in her life. I told her about the group that hadn't allowed me to sleep and how the staff and done nothing to prevent it. She then told me that no one else had complained about it. Excuse me? but there are 2 of us here making the complaint right now.

I asked to speak with a manager and she told me one wasn't available. I then asked her when one would be and she told me that she would try to contact one later (which in Bolivia could be an eternity). Of course she tried to pass the buck onto whoever was on watch at night and other guest's. She never took down my name, room number, or wrote anything down. At no point did she ever even offer an apology. She later told me that she had "spoken to the manager", but it was my fault for not coming downstairs to complain at 3 in the morning - this time passing the buck to me, the "guest". This portly receptionist was the definition of "mala educada" (bad mannered) and her face matched her disposition.

I understand the hostal's logic, it was probably a sound business decision- allow the large group who was paying more money to have a good time to try to encourage return business, even if it came at the expense of a handful of individuals staying in the dorms.

However when you make your living in the service industry, in a city with as much competition as La Paz, your livelihood depends on being able to provide a good service. At times, incidents like this one can and do occur, and usually that can somehow be made up for to the offended, drowsy guests - however the attitude of the girl who fielded my complaint only goes to show the terrible service philosophy of the entire institution. Although I, the consumer, might have suffered a bad night without so much as an apology, I have the right to voice my opinion here (and in several other forums) to try to discourage any of my fellow consumers from making the same mistake. Please heed my advice, take your money elsewhere!
