Second largest church in Sofia, named on the martyr st. Nikolay of Sofia, who was burned by the Ottomans two blocks from the place. The church was built in the beginning of the XX century. The park surrounding it was built somewhat 10 years later as there was an oriental flee market there before. The main monument in the park is of the Odrin Bulgarian militia which helped in the conquest of the Edirne city from inside the city gates during the first Balkan war. The near street bears the same name from this date (Opalchenets = Militiaman).
