  The recently opened Makaza border crossing allows easier access to Aegean sea. Long and sweeping corners of this new pass that leads to the crossing makes easier to travel.The new pavement that was laid not more than 5 years ago is smooth and flowing, unlike the most tarmac roads that is full of cracks and potholes in the East Block countries. It's definitely delightful to see after getting used to the West European roads. It seems like Romanians, Ukrainians and Russians really liked this crossing that they always lineup on the border every summer I have been there.
  
  As you approach the border altitude starts to go up mountains start to steepen and you will be able to see even green grass and trees in middle of the summer in Bulgaria were temperatures reach 35 to 40 degree Celcius. On the Greek side after you cross the border the mountains open up and you will be able to see the city of Komotini and the farm fields very quickly.

  The road is still in progress from Greek side. It is a small cross border point and the best is that it is only for cars. We wait about 3 min only. No problem. But we lost our self in Bulgaria.

  For romanians travel to Greece this is the border to cross,no heavy traffic but sometimes the border staff are slow,bound Greece in 12 June was waiting 35 min,inbound Romania in 22 June waiting 1h5min.

  Road to the border has not been finished. So be aware to use it in the day time. Border was not bad. We wait like 15 minutes on 5th of June on Sunday. Still if you are crossing from Selanik it's better to cross the one near Sofia
