We found the monastery under renovation. Half of the places were closed and we could only see the central church (which is nice but really small).
There was a nice walk that we did but the sign were not in English and everything was closed or not working.
Reading the other reviews, I guess we were unlucky, but to us it was a loss of time

Worth visiting when you're passing by. There's 2 leva parking fee. What I was really happy with is that there are a lot of food stalls on the way to the monastery. You can buy a lot of cheap, but great quality home-made products :).

Great place, surrounded by Rodopi mountains. Bu sure to allow time to stop by many of the restaurants to eat their famous burgers (yes, Rodopi and Plovdiv burgers are famous in Turkey). Hiking in the monastery reserve is also a good idea.

We arrived late and were welcomed very friendly by the Monks. The room we got is like a 3 star hotel, with wonderful view at the church and the Rodopi mountain.
There are covers to borrow for the women who are dressed unproperly, so you could spontaneously visit even if you wear tank top.

Seemingly off of the mainstream tourist route, there seemed to be only Bulgarians at the Monastery when we visited. One of the most beautiful and ancient Orthodox churches you're likely to see. Well worth a visit.

As a monastary, it is okay. It is run down and in disrepair, so not worth the drive if that is all you want to see. However, great "flea-market" style shops at the site for shopping, so great adventure then if looking for Bulgarian souvenirs.

I was amazed by this monastery. The thing I liked most was that there were a lot of priests and I could see them in real life. There was a relics from Georgia but I did not understand entirely but I visited Georgia before so it was interesting I will look after this. The surrounding area was also wonderful thee are a lot of restaurants with tasty food.

This place is really beautiful, a hidden gem. The setting of the town from which you walk up from (if getting the regular bus) is really mysterious and rural. When I went a baptism was being carried out in the church and I didn't want to intrude so never got to see that part. But there was another church to it, and I still got to hear a baptism being carried out in Bulgarian. I'd definitely recommended a trip here!
