Very small, but very pleasant place to relax for a week or two. Quiet and far away from the mass tourists destinations like Sozopol or Nessebar. I have noticed Robert's comment and in my opinion he is biased. As every foreigner (with a Bulgarian wife) - no one can seriously expected to get a better beef steak in a small village in South Bulgaria than in North America. You have to try the local food - sea food if recommended by the cook, salads, tomatoes with white cheese, Zucchini chips etc. Try some of the home made cakes!!! Mmmm..And for quality you have to pay the price. Money talks, b.. walks, right? I am enjoying my stay and can only recommend it!

My wife is Bulgarian and had somehow heard this was a fine dining experience so I agreed to drive down from our Summerhouse in Sozopol. My expectations were high after seeing the website and the Italian style of the hotel. We had reservations for 7pm but were greeted by a somewhat surprised young woman dressed as a candy-striper. We were seated at a table on a walkway in the near empty restaurant beside the only other guests (who were chain smoking).
After 3 weeks of eating mostly pork dishes, I was pleasantly surprised to see a T-bone steak on the menu. We ordered spaghetti for our kids, fine little meatballs and potatoes, tarator, ribs, salad, and the steak for me. At 29 Lev for the bare steak, my expectations peaked. In Vancouver, that will get you a very nice T-Bone. So, when a grilled pork chop arrived, I was just confused. I guess I should have asked what kind of animal's T bone. The meatballs turned out to be regular (large) kufte similar to those you can get from any street vendor in Bulgaria. The potatoes were bland and the spaghetti was a thick mess of burnt tomato sauce and noodles stirred up and regurgitated into a bowl. We also tried their 'special' bread and pork ribs of which neither was very special - the ribs were dry and quite bland actually. We couldn't eat most of it so my wife asked to bring it home but it still lingers in our fridge like 3 day old Chinese take away. Nobody is desperate for seconds.
The only saviour of the meal was the wine, which, sadly, Vilarte had little to do with. Otherwise the little hotel is quite cute and well constructed for Bulgarian standards. There are a ton of kitschy little art pieces around the hotel and it is kept very clean which adds to the charm.
I guess the owner is somebody in Bulgaria, so if you're a Bulgarian with self-esteem issues, this is the place for you. If you're looking for a good meal, any Bulgarian grandma can probably do better.
