Great piece of historydid a quick stop here in 2005. Battlefield now a mound, but still, worth the visit for the experience.
The museum is fantastic and really adds interest and context to the visit. The mount is a claim but a great view and well worth doing. Great value
Nothing much to see but just the lion at the top of the hill which is a quite a hike going up. 360 view of the area where the battle happened. Imagination can help :-) They have a festival here which re-enacts the battle of waterloo.
We had little time and had hoped to get the view from the top, but then you had to buy a full ticket to the museum, with 4D cinema etc, just to climb the hill! I would have loved to see that part as well - but this time we didn't have time and had to leave with a sad face :(
One book about the Duke, bit confused as to who won this. A public monument of the defeat of a would-be dictator. It used to be in my history classes as a small boy, can't remember my teacher charging me £21 to climb a hill I can't climb. If you happen to be disabled then it becomes stranger.
I suppose the rule is - don't educate children in school now, wait untill they have enough money to learn.
The "4D" battle scene can be "seen" on my "3D" screen for noth-een. 😀
It's an artificial hill. With a big lion statue.
Contemplating the historical surroundings of the battle of Waterloo does give one some pause, but for the rest.. meh.
Normally very busy with troops of noisy school kids and loads of tourists snapping dozens of shots of -to be honest- nothing much.
Considering the importance of this place I only can rate it 5 starts ! The view is always impressing, but the administration could do better for the money they get ! I don't liked the food vans all around the main entrance
Excellent day out, we were lucky with lovely weather to make the best of the great views. Very informative museum with a great 4d film. Nice restaurant with helpful staff and good food. 266 step climb up to the lion is rewarded with great views. Prices are not unreasonable either for entrance or food. Well worth a visit
Historic location. Napoleon's last battle took place here. Nice view of the surrounding area.
Took the family there when they visited us over 25 years at SHAPE. Our kids liked itbecause there was a McDonald's in Waterloo. The golden arches were turned upside down on the advertising to spell Waterloo.
The whole experience was sombering. After the tour I could really visualise the battle.
A must visit for every person who has at least slightest knowledge about Napoleon. This was his last battle, and game changer for the history of Europe! To access Lion's Mound, you will have to enter through the Museum and also pay an entry fee. View from this place is very nice. On top, there is a map depicting the locations where each army was located, during the battle. Don't miss the Panorama view, before going to the top of Mound. Museum is also very impressive and well presented. Absolutely no problem, if you don't know French! everything you need, is available in English/other languages as well.
If you know what you're going for, this is a pretty neat place to visit. The 1812 Memorial museum is pretty interesting, and you could quite easily spend 2-3 hours looking at everything.
The mound is a mound. There was a little bit of information at the top, but it was pretty lacking. There were adverts for an Augmented Reality headset you could get, but only at the top of the mound. A bit too late to rent one. For 3 Euro, I probably would have picked it up too.
