We came upon Beau Rève by chance whilst looking for a campsite that 'ticked' all the boxes for our week away. The owners, Ben and Annalies were extremely welcoming and throughout our stay offered good advice as to where to go and provided information and maps as we knew nothing about the area. We were lucky with the weather. We pitched our tent on the flat plush green grass alongside the forest. There are 2 excellent power showers. No tokens or coins required. The bathrooms are cleaned regularly. There are 2 sinks to wash your dishes with hot water and a drinking water facility. Although there is no shop on the campsite, it offers a fantastic bread delivery service (the croissants are a must!!!). Wifi is only accessible on the terrace at the house. Electric hook up is available on site. The bar at the house is well stocked with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There really isn't anything that let the place down which is why I've given it 5 stars. We enjoyed our stay so much that we'll definitely be back next year for a sedate stay.

I decided on a last minute motorbike trip over a long weekend in the Ardennes and having been to La Roche before picked that area as it is so lovely. I'm really not a fan of big busy campsites, so based on the previous reviews (esp. Jamie Powell - good tip on Breakfast!) I decided to try this site, and I have to say for me this is just the best campsite I have tried in a long while. It was rural so very peaceful, the facilities were just ideal for what I required (showers, toilets, washing up sinks) and very clean with lots of space. On arrival Ben cycled down to the camping area with me and said I could go anywhere but advised not so close to the stream as rain was forecast and it could get a bit wetter there, so I pitched up under the trees. Ben also got a small paving slab for my bike stand to go on to avoid the possibility of it sinking in the ground (thanks for that).
All setup, I headed to the reception area where there was some nice outside seating and inside there was a bar and more nice seating (Note: it's a nice cosy quite area to have a quite drink and chat). Lovely sitting there with a Belgian beer :-) The free WiFi was very good as well, and for me very useful. I ordered Breakfast (which I found out they did from another review) and had a nice nights sleep. The road beside the campsite, although you can hear the cars when they go past, there really isn't that many going past, so that was no issue. Breakfast was very good (continental) and lasted me all day. I got back late (10pm) after a day out (watching the Spa Bikers Classics) and just a little wet, but headed up to the reception to see if they would serve me a beer (or 2) which they did no problem, and it was a chance to warm up a little (rain all day!).
I saw they also did 2 person camping huts, if you want the camping feeling without the hassle of a tent - one was complete and one being built when I was there and were €50 for 2 people inc. breakfast and bedding). I might return and try one of those (plus tent) with the family (wife a reluctant camper!), but my daughter would love the site with the streams and woods to explorer. So thanks to Ben & Annelies and hope to see you again in the future.

What a brilliant little campsite. Near to La Roche, with history, and some food shops, but feels very rural with nothing but woodland around. Ben & Annelies were excellent hosts, welcoming us, and helping in every way they could. No static caravans, no demarked pitches, loads of space, dogs welcome, a small bar/shop onsite for beer (La Chouffe), coffee, breakfast etc. Cheap fire wood to buy with fire pit loan, clean facilities. Sitting here now with the owners having a quiet coffee and chat. Would highly recommend!!!

Top!
