the station was the most dangerous station which i've met, and the policy didn't do anything to prevent stealing and robbing, what they did was just to threat the common people out of the waiting rooms, and our bus was 3:00 in 07.11.2017. so after 1 am we waited outside, and it was really cold about 1 grad, my colleague got cold, and we were nearly stolen(quite like robbing) by the crippy persons hanging around the station outside, i was really angry about it, it was no humanoids.

Central but other than that it is a dump. Crowded with homeless people. Smells worse than a toilet and surrounded with immoral people like the red light district.

Having travelled many times to and from this station, I decided to help future travellers about it. I don't know a worse station in Northwestern Europe. It is as bad as others describe it below.

Take Eurolines: If you are left stranded there after midnight or 1 am there, you are more or less kicked out by the authorities as they shut it; no staff to help you if, say, you have missed the last train or bus (amd it is the bus company's fault!)

Then there is the actual ticketing machines for the railway — when the station eventually opens again — which only take card and some coins. No chance using your banknotes. They are clean, modern and multilingual so I'll give them that (when they are not out of service)

But the worst thing by far for me is the toilet experience. Aside from the poor signalling on where they acrually are situated, their location makes ZERO sense: hidden away in some remote corner by some stairs next to a lift. And of course it has opening hours which, again, if you are left stranded or have a last train / bus to catch but no available toilets are around, don't expect Quick or any other eating places to have one! Now, the €.50 you have to pay to use the toilets when they decide to open them, I don't mind, as long as there is actual value for money justifying it! For the male toilets I stood in okay-ish urinals, did my business, press the tap button to run the water, let go and the flow of water immediately stops. So you have to keep holding down the button with one hand to rinse and wash the other.
I get it, it is for environmental reasons. So many times have I walked into a public toilet and the water has just been left to run for god knows how long; like people don't know how to use taps!
But the 50 cents does not justify the *watered-down Aldi liquid hand wash*. I don't know if the woman that sits there is expected to use the cash to buy the soap but my god, you would expect there to be unlimited use of good qual hand wash at all times.
Then to finish off is a loud old school hand dryer activated by a large button, which I doubt has its insides regularly cleaned / disinfected.
It is no surprise there is piss smell down by the entrance of the station, as evidently the toilets won't cater to people's needs at all times. Yes there are homeless and / or migrants sleeping down there and it is a pretty grimey look. They - and the rest of us - deserve better

Dirty and very badly signaled. Besides, they don't give English instructions. The office is very badly located, you can easily miss it if you've never been here. There's nobody in the station to give directions. With over 10 platforms, it's easy to get lost.

Renovation had been long overdue but they have been working here recently. There's a Quick for burgers, a Starbucks for coffee, a Press Shop for newspapers and magazines plus some new shops opening up in the renovated area.

For the love of everything holy, why are public toilets so few and far between in Brussels? This station does have a few toilets tucked away in a corner, but they're not easy to find, not always open, and obviously many people don't make it because the place stinks of urine in the doorways and quiet spots. Who can blame them?
Outside in the covered Tram/Taxi area there was even a pile of faeces, where the homeless and alcoholics seem to gather en masse until the Police chase them away.
There is a high and visible security presence which is good, and overall food/shopping facilities within the station itself are quite good - however, take my advice, try to avoid long waits at Bussels Midi.
