Background of the Establishment of the University:
In February 2002, a small group of academicians approached the chairman of United Group Mr. Hasan Mahmood Raja with a proposal to establish a quality private university in Bangladesh. After scrutinizing the mission and vision of the proposed university the “Academic Plan” and “Project Proposal” were sent to the Ministry of Education for approval. A team from University Grants Commission (UGC) inspected the project head office on 10 October 2002 to assess the readiness of the UIU team to surpass the set standards of the Government for opening up a private university. Finally, formal approval from the Government of Bangladesh was obtained on 2 June 2003 from the Ministry of Education and United International University started its academic program in October 2003 in a rented building.
