Thakurgaon Old Airport was built during World War 2 for British military aviation support. It has the longest runway in airports in BD. It is nowadays abandoned, local people sometimes use it for drying crops. The airstrip and adjacent area now becomes a open wide place for refreshment as well as having some historical values.

The Eastern Pakistan Flying Club was established in 1948. By 1960, British Overseas Airways Corporation and Pan American Airways had started operating flights out of Dhaka, PIA had started operating Boeing 707 and Vickers VC10 jet services, and new airports had been established out of former Royal Air Force stations at Jessore, Chittagong, Thakurgaon, Ishwardi, and Comilla
