Founded in 1986 by a group of inspired social workers, the Society for Social Service (SSS) is a pro-poor non-governmental development organization aspiring for a just and peaceful society free from hunger and all sorts of human miseries. It specifically works for the disadvantaged and down trodden segment of the society and has on its agenda a host activities geared towards poverty alleviation, promotion of human rights and social justice, promotion of health and nutrition, education, rescue and rehabilitation, dissemination of echo-environment friendly technology, upholding of social norms and values, gender equity and many more.

With a view to sustaining development through ensuring combined service along with creating awareness on poverty alleviation, fulfillment of right and education-health among the poor, neglected and destitute men, women and children of the society, Society for Social Service (SSS) emerged in the November of 1986. At present, the activities of SSS have expanded through 27 districts of the country. It operates in 160 Upazilas and 9326 villages within the districts. 486037 beneficiaries are getting direct services through 11 Zone, 45 Area, 255 Branch and 8 project offices under Head Office. Among them, 474952 are women, 9373 men and 1712 children.
