It had been a busy multipurpose hospital since early 20th century until new Mymensingh Medical College Hospital was started in 1968.
It was established by the than British era local jamindar Raja Surja Kanta. Surja Kanta Hospital was popularly known as SK Hospital. It served as teaching hospital of Litton Medical School which later became Mymensingh Medical College in 1961. SK Hospital was the only modern hospital of greater Mymensingh district for half a century. Most of the famous physicians and surgeons worked at certain part of their careers.
SK Hospital is now serving as infectious disease hospital, however, mostly unutilized.
It's red colored British heritage buildings are standing as testimony of time.
If you happen to be in Mymensingh as a tourist, this is a must visit place.

S K Hospital was named after Jaminder Surya Kanta because this hospital was established in the estate of this Jaminder after he left the land because of cessation of Jamindary or Landlord system in the subcontinent. The old structures still remains.

Once upon a time this hospital was the biggest in Mymensingh district before the present Mymensingh Medical college was established. Now this hospital is mainly used for the treatment of communicable diseases like Diarrhea diseases, Rabies, Kala-Azar TB and other types of disease like snake bite etc.

It is very near to the Railway station, a ten minutes walk at best. Now the civil surgeon office of Mymensingh and the Newly formed Divisional director of Health's office is situated in the hospital premises.
