  The Immigration and Passport Department was fully established in 1973 under the leadership of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in post-independence independent sovereign Bangladesh. The number of offices in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Khulna is 6 (six) including the head office of the department located in Dhaka. In 2010, a revolutionary change took place in the Department of Immigration and Passports under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The issuance of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) and Machine Readable Visa (MRV) started in line with the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO). At the same time, if 19 regional passport offices are established, the number of offices is 34 (thirty four). In 2011, another 33 (thirty three) regional passport offices were established. It has a regional passport office, Lalmonirhat. Its activities started on 03/12/2014. A significant achievement of the present government is the establishment of passport offices in the districts. Through this, the quality of passport service has become much easier, safer from harassment. At present, machine readable passport (MRP) service is being provided to the people of 05 (five) police stations of Lalmonirhat district through this office. 30 June 2019 To date, 21165 machine readable passports have been distributed through this office.
