Rampal project was first conceived in 2010 and Bangladesh signed an agreement with India for the joint coal-based power project on January 29, 2012. India’s state-owned NTPC and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) have equal ownership of the plant and also the electricity it generates.

Subsequently, in 2013, Bangladesh India Friendship Company Limited (BIFPCL) was formed to deal with power trading between the two South Asian countries. The BIFPCL is a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and BPDB.

On February 29, 2016, BIFPCL inked an agreement with India’s state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to build the 2x660 MW Super Thermal Power Project worth of INR 1000 million. The Rampal power project, which is also referred to as “Maitree (Friendship) Project”, will be constructed over 1,834 hectares near the Mongla sea port.
BHEL has arranged debt financing for the project from the EXIM Bank of India, for which the loan agreement between EXIM Bank of India and BIFPCL was signed in March, 2017.

Project is expected to start commercial operation by 2020.

It is important for us. but it is dangerous for the Sundatbans and the environment. We want electricity but we don't want to harm hour environment. This project is harmful for our overall environment. Any occurance may damages the overall project which causes a effective losses of our environment. So, we don't want the project by harming our environment.

It's a good a large project for power plant of 1320 MW. Coal based this Electricity Power production project is being built with the joint venture of the Government of Bangladesh and India. high Qualified and very good engineers are here. Though, the project is growing with a great speed, but it needs more time. Coal based electricity project is harmful for the environment but, heat will be transmitted to Sundarban in the winter, not in summer as the wind / air comes from the south / southern east corner.

a self destructive project for Bangladesh because it's going to affect the world's largest mangrove forest Sundarbon. thought we need electricity, the are many other suitable places to setup the power plant.

I don't know if it is very much necessary to build this powerplant here spearing all the land of Bangladesh.
But as it is located upstream of the river, if any pollutants dumped in the river from the plant, that will surely hurt the Eastern part of our Shundarban.
So this has to be checked. Otherwise this project is a go. ✌️
