Moulvibazar Government College
Moulvibazar, an area of one bud in two
leaves, is a small
district town, situated on the bank of the river ‘Manu’. To the
north of the town the ‘Manu’ flows towards the west The
eastern and southern sides are surrounded by high and low
tillas covered by innumerable trees and echoed by the chirping
of different birds. Shopping malls abound in countless
commercial products.
The largest educational institution of the district, Moulvibazar
Govt. College, was established in the southern tilla- coverd
area of the town designed like a picture. The distinguished
educationists and charitable personalities were architects
behind the establishment of this college. Along with them Mr.
M. Arif, the then sub-divisional officer, extended his helping
hands sincerely and whole-heartedly. As usual the untiring
endeavours and self-motivated contribution of some
unassuming and dedicated workers interested in education
and public welfare resulted in the establishment of a bright
light and this is Moulvibazar Govt. College.
In fact, we feel sorry not to be able to describe the history of
Moulvibazar Govt. College based on facts and figures owing to
the lack of appropriate information and evidence, because
many precious documents and papers bearing different
information which were kept in college offices and store
rooms were destroyed during the liberation war of 1971 and
thus a lot of valuable information has been lost. Available
sources of the information are as follows : discussion with the
living old persons who were involved with the establishment of
the college, different kinds of writings published at different
times in district magazines and souvenirs etc. From those
sources we come to know that the establishment of the
college was originally led by Late Dewan Alhajj Abdul Basit
(former Provincial Minister), Late Hazi Keramot Ali, Monmoth
Poddar (owner of Moulvi Tea Estate), Late Md. Enam Ullah,
N.K. Patra, Boomkash Ghosh, the then distinguished
businessman champalal sunday, Syed Sorforaz Ali and many
others including Ali Haider Khan. In the beginning of the
establishment of this college, different donors made their later
generations grateful forever by providing different kinds of
aids and assistance. Many of them from home and abroad
provided financial favours for the infrastructural development.
Many known donors and many others who chose to remain
anonymous extended their contributions since the
establishment of the college. Their involvement definitely
proves the enthusiasm and interest of the people of this
locality in education. Another name which deservers mention,
admiration and recognition is Late Hazi Keramot Ali who
made the highest financial contribution. The old north building
(building no. 1) located adjacent to the teachers’ common
room was financed by him alone. Besides, the names and
addresses of a section of numerous donors including Late
Zarip Miah are still engraved on a white stone of the old
building of the college. A close observation of this nameplate
makes it clear that not only the donors and educationists of
Moulvibazar but also many a personality from other adjacent
districts participated in this noble work.
From the time of its establishment, this institution has taken
part in different activities of the state as well as society. The
participation of this college in different movements in the 60s
is worth mentioning. This college produced leadership at
different levels. It created skilled bureaucrats, teachers,
advocates, doctors and different professionals, who did their
utmost for the academic and infrastructural betterment of this
institution. The students and teachers of this college made
their supreme sacrifice in the liberation war of 1971. Mr. Mukit,
Abdus Shahid, Kripesh Ranjan Bishwash, Rahim Bokhs
(Khoka), Sudorshan Deb, Samir Kumar Ghosh and others were
among those students who laid down their lives for the liberty
and sovereignty of the country. Their memory has made a
permanent imprint on the minds of the people of Moulvibazar.

Moulvi bazar Government College.

This College was founded by Rev. J. Morgan in 1956. Initially it was a private institute run by the local Presbyterian church fund. The College opened its doors with commerce and Arts Faculties. In the mid '60s it added the Science faculty by collecting donations from the local Marchents and elites of the society. In the mid '80s the Government took over
