Melandi is remote village in Bangladesh with a total area of 146,483.08 m² (1,576,730.76 ft²) and a perimeter of 1.75 km (1.09 mi).
The village is inhabited by 2674 peoples.
Muslim and Hindus lived there for about 300 years. Muslims are mainly farmers,where as Hindus are fishermen.
Mridha, Mondal, Sarder and Swarnoker are the family title of Muslim, while Halder is title of Hindus living here.
Near past, there were a few goldsmith and merchant of leather and clothes.
Melandi Primary School was founded by ingenious effort of then enthusiastic educationalist and Poet Late Md. Mofiz Uddin Mridha. The eminent businessman, Md. Yakub Ali Mridha and devoted man Md. Idris Ali Mridha extended their heart-full courageous support to establish the foundation of the school.
Moulvi Abdur Rahim was teacher of Melandi madrasa. Poet Mofiz Uddin Mridha and Moulvi Abdur Rahim were very friendly to each other. Mofiz Uddin started to teach Bengali education at the corner of the madrasa. That was the turning point of education system in orthodox Muslim community in this village.
