Jagroto Chowrongi in Jaidebpur

Jagroto Chowrongi is the first post-Liberation War sculpture in Bangladesh.

Abdur Razzaque is regarded as one of the greatest sculptors of our country. He was the first artist to take up sculpture in the independent country. His 'Jagroto Chowrongi' is considered one of the best sculptures in Bangladesh, considering both form and theme, by art critics. Located in Jaidebpur, and constructed in 1973, it is the first post-Liberation War sculpture in Bangladesh.
It depicts a freedom fighter with a grenade in his right and a rifle in his left hand. The sculpture is an 18 feet high concrete piece on a 24 feet pedestal.
About the work, noted sculptor Syed Abdullah Khalid said, “After finishing 'Jagroto Chowrongi', Razzaque Sir was encouraged to do many sculptures in different areas of the country. His works are simultaneously of technical excellence and intellectually mature. He liked to work with figures. He has made many semi-abstract and pure abstract pieces. These vary in media, materials and size. As medium he has used cement, stone, steel, iron, bronze and wood. In metals he has used both welding technique and casting.
Wood, one of his preferred mediums, was carved and shaped to give a distinct dimension by the touch of his skilled hands.”

Pride of our nation.. Abdur Razzaque’s ‘Jagroto Chowrongi’ is considered one of the best sculptures in Bangladesh both in form and theme by art critics and the masses. It's located in Joydevpur, Gazipur, and built in 1973, it is the first post-liberation war sculpture. It depicts a freedom fighter in rural clothing with a grenade in his right hand and a rifle in his left hand.

Over populated and very noisy area.
Always traffic jam..

If you are going to Joydebpur then plz leave ur bus when found yourself in traffic jam. Then cross the road and take rickshaw or CNG.

Nearby restaurants are very normal..type.
For fast food you can try ajwa (at Joydebpur road)
BFC at rowson sorok, Joydebpur road.

There is also a BFC at tangail road.
But both BFC's are not original. quality is average

The first memorial sculpture of the great liberation war of Bangladesh is the Jagroto Chowrongi. The height of the sculpture is 100 feet from the ground. There are engraved names of 207 martyrs of freedom fighters around the sculpture.

Jagroto Chowrongi (The vigilant Crossroad) is the first post Liberation War sculpture in Bangladesh. The 'Jagroto Chowrongi' is considered one of the best sculptures in Bangladesh, considering both form and theme, by art critics. Located in Joydebpur Chowrasta and constructed in 1973. This was designed by Abdur Razzaque who was among the few talented and dedicated students of the Government Institute of Arts who played a pioneering role in the development of the modern western style of painting in Bangladesh.
This is also an important intersection of Dhaka -Mymensingh highway, Dhaka- Tangail highway, Dhaka - Gazipur Sadar highway.
