There aren't many animals to see and the ones that are there looks like they're underfed and ill kept. It's still an okay place for a day out with family, the lake side is a good place to sit in relative solace.
Overall pretty meh experience.
Great place to visit for kids specially. The number and variety of animals is not stunning but kids will enjoy. Frequent sitting areas and toilets were noticeable, though didn't visit the toilets so cannot attest for their condition. There is a restaurant inside. Suggest comfortable clothes and shoes as the walk is quite long and the road very uneven. Caps would be better than umbrellas as they would soon become a burden to carry around. Over all a great trip within city that everyone in the family can enjoy.
The national zoo seems to be more organized and cleaner compared to the previous time. Some sections are still vacant. The birds and animals are not equally well-treated and the wild environment is not up to the mark. Food, toilet and road facilities should be improved. However, despite the limitations, people still enjoy a lot, specially the lake areas.
The necessity for establishment of Zoological garden and Botanical Gardens in the erstwhile province of East Pakistan was felt at the very inception of Pakistan in the year 1947 as there was no such garden in the province. This was receiving attention of the Government science 1947. In 1947 dire necessity of establishing a state owned zoological garden was felt. A zoo park was being started at High court premises of Dhaka with a limited number of spotted deer, monkeys and few other species of animals. A master plan was approved with a view to establish a zoological garden at Mirpur in 1960.
An advisory board was constituted for establishment and proper management of zoo next year. The zoo was opened on June 23, 1974 after necessary construction and procurement of animals from home and abroad. Till then it has been gradually grown into a beautiful and attractive zoological garden exhibiting animals in natural settings using modern method of keeping.
National zoo of Bangladesh. This is the biggest zoo in the country. This place has a big open space. It will be nice if you go with family. You can have fun if you go as group. This place is really smelly so be aware of that. This is a very large area so be prepare to walk.
Bangladesh's largest & oldest zoo established in approximately 1950's decade. number of animals are regularly visited over here. The zoo exhibits more than 50 species of mammals and over 2000 animals. The aviaries at the zoo house more than 1500 birds representing 91 species. The two lakes at the zoo also host migratory water birds each winter. Visitors can also see 13 species of reptiles including snakes and crocodiles, and 28 species of fish.
There are some mismanagement of maintaining such animals. concerned dept should take care of the issue.
Good for holiday visit. Kids could enjoy different animals. But if authority wants much improvement could be done. Kids play zone is almost ruined.Food and restroom arrangement are very poor inside. Luckily we got a paid parking area. But I don't know how long this facility will remain available.
It's Amazing place for recreation and visit wild life. Its our National Zoo.There are more than 250+ species of animals are kept in here. You may enjoy the whole tour. You have need a full day to visit every cage and meet with our lovely animals. More over we need more collection but the existing collection is huge and attractive.
Please visit this zoo when visiting Bangladesh or visiting Dhaka.

without proper care and nursing, this used to be nice place has became a dump! i used to like the place not only for the animals but also the touch of nature. I wish the authority shall take the steps to make it as it used to be, like a wonderful memory.
It is a wonderful place to visit and spend quality time with family. It is a ver educative place for kids. Number of species living in this zoo is very large. So it will be fun if anybody wants to spend some time with the creations of mother nature.
it's also known as Mipur Zoo. The largest zoo of Bangladesh. Everyday thousands of visitors visit the zoo to see the different kind of wild animals like Tiger, Lion, Elephant, Zebra, Snake, Crocodile, Monkey, Birds etc.it's one of the most visited place in Dhaka city. you can go there by bus or private transport from any part of the city.
It is really good for Bangladeshi people. But Zoo authority don't use indicator firstly. You go to the map of the zoo and take right turn for seeing it properly.
Largest zoo in Bangladesh having a vast collection of animals, birds & reptiles. It's very popular for total entertainment with friends & family at a cheap rate. But authority should keep focus on care of the animals & keeping the area neat & clean
There are lots of different types of animals.
But popular animals are very few.
For example only 2 tiger.
Authority should bring more tigers and other popular animal.
Zoo Museum is awesome. .
Bangladesh National Zoo is quite a large place in respect of land area but it is not so regarding the collection of different species of animals and birds. Unlike its officials, its animals are ill-fed and ill-cared. It is not well secured. So while walking about , you must be conscious of your surroundings.
Attractive tourist spot, large number of animals- local and foreign available here. The area is too large and of amazing natural beauty. You must come twice to visit the whole area. Nice for time pass
The best place for the tourist to make a tour and gather some interesting experiences. A great chance also for the visitors to go close to the nature and attain mental peace.
yes ~~~ Nice place for family hangout with kids. You can schedule a full day visit. Better to take your food from outside. Enough places to rest and play.
any animal lover will feel the pity for the caged animals. the poor animals looked like they are suffering from malnutrition. i remember my visit from roughly 15 years ago and it seemed that since that day the condition of the zoo deteriorated instead of getting better.
Apart from the animals, the aquarium could have been better. I myself is an entry level aquarium fish owner and even i know how to maintain an aquarium to keep the fishes happy and safe but it seemed that the zoo authority either were careless or didn't know anything about safe keeping of fish, let alone other live animals. The fish tank could use a good clean up and more agitation of water for better oxygenation.
Indeed it was a sad day of my life. The poor animals deserve a little more.
it's national zoo of Bangladesh. its very beautiful place. It has many animals , trees etc. I visited national zoo in 2012 .it's amazing place. All types of go there to enjoying beautiful nature and creation.
At first I went into the shed in which the monkeys were. Before I could get near them I could hear their chattering.
They were jumping from one bar to another. I liked their performances and gave them a whole bunch of plantains.
My attention was next drawn to the cage in which there were two big snakes. They seemed to be asleep. The sight of the snakes made my blood creep.
Then I turned my eyes from them at a porcupine. I then saw some deer whose beautiful eyes attracted me. I turned away from them to the place where the tigers were held in a cage.
They greeted me and many others with loud growls. They impressed me with their majesty. I felt rather happy when I visited the birds. They were of various colors and shapes. They were large in number. I saw two crocodiles kept in a small pond. I also saw a gorilla. I also visited some other beasts and water animals. I was beside myself with joy. I spent several hours. There were some fast food shops. I took light refreshment. The environment was calm and quiet. The natural scenery of our national Zoo is very beautiful.
