Development of Nursing field was associated with the East & West Pakistan.
Before partition
East Bengal offered basic nursing education in 3 junior nursing schools (Sylhet, Chittagong and Mymensingh).
After Liberation
Associated with the new national health policies & program.
In 1947
The first professional Senior Nursing School was established in 1947 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, and managed by few Sister Tutors, Sister and Staff Nurses from Madras and India. (source BNMC).
In 1949.
6 students were sent to England for basic nursing training.
They took over the leading positions in nursing for the improvement of education & services in a standard level.
In 2008
The 4 (Four) Year Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery course, Nursing Institute is converted to Nursing College and started to offer 4 years basic BSc in Nursing under the University of Dhaka (100 seats / Y)
December, 2012
3 years basic Diploma in Midwifery Course offered (50 seats / Y)
The college is affiliated with the University of Dhaka & recognized by the Director General Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery, Bangladesh Nursing & Midwifery Council (BNMC) and Ministry of Health &Family Welfare (MoH&FP). Proposed college structure- till not approved.
