Department of Geography and Environmental Science
About the Department:
Department of Geography and Environmental Science (GES) started its academic activities from 2009-10 session which was a second academic session at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur under the faculty of Science and Engineering. Departing from the traditional geography, the curriculum is arranged on the modern applied approaches related to the study of humans and environment. This department provides such knowledge and research activities which enhance the world wide geographical phenomenon and environmental issues focusing on the scenario of the third world countries
The department started its academic activities from 2009-10 session with 64 students and only two faculty members. Since then, the department is gradually progressing itself.

Programs and Facilities:
A 4 year semester system (2 semesters per year) of teaching and letter grade system of evaluation is introduced at the B.Sc (Hon's) level from the very first batch of students. A Computer Lab with a Software ARC/Info, ERDAS and other remote sensing softwares for Geographic Information System (GIS),Physical Geography Laboratory for soil and geo-chemical analyses and a Cartographic Lab are there in the department.
A Seminar Library has a fairly good number of geographical books, journals and periodicals which along with the collections in the university central library and information serves the needs of students and researches. BRUGA (Begum Rokeya University Geographers` Association) which is a departmental organization is committed to arrange different types of cultural and geographical programs.
