Cox's Bazar Airport (IATA: CXB, ICAO: VGCB) is a domestic airport in the resort town of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. The airport serves mostly tourists. The airport is in process of being upgraded to an international airport, in order to attract more tourists, which will make it the fourth international airport in Bangladesh. The two phases of upgrading, will make the airport able to provide better facilities for parking, landing and take-off for wide-body aircraft. The whole project is 6 billion (US$71 million) project. The airport's runway currently has been expanded from 6,790 feet to 9,000 feet, and will be widened from 150 feet to 200 feet. The runway's load capability will be strengthened for wide-body operation, while the runway lighting will also get an upgrade. Equipment such as instrument landing system, distance measuring equipment, AMeDAS and VOR will be installed.Aircraft Refueling (JET A-1 ) Facilities is available from February 2017 by Standard Asiatic Oil Company Limited, an Enterprise of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation. On 20 July 2014 the nose gear of an ATR 72-200 of United Airways collapsed after safely landing in the airport, en route from Dhaka. On 9 March 2016 an Antonov An-26 of True Aviation crashed shortly after take-off into the Bay of Bengal.
A recent report relating to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism reveals a scam in the land acquisition for Cox's Bazar airport expansion. It cannot but worry people interested in development of tourism in the country. The report, the result of an enquiry, initiated by the ministry concerned found negligence on the part of the project director and at the same time inefficiency, corruption and monetary mismanagement by some other high-ups in the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). The enquiry led by a high official of the ministry was carried out under the recent directive of the Prime Minister's to rid the country of corruption. One key element of the findings is that the money as compensation for land acquisition was not deposited with the Deputy Commissioner in time. It resulted in the expenditure rising by Tk 100 crores over time. It has also been alleged that the boundary wall was not constructed in a proper manner. This means the important question of security of the periphery of airport may have been compromised. Had the money been deposited in time, it would have saved half the money now needed to be spent as compensation. Such callous and irresponsible performance from the concerned people, some of them from the CAAB and among the locally powerful elements, cannot be condoned. It has been disclosed that the people involved connived with a section of the Land Acquisition (LA) office to delay payment so that the new rule allowing three times the original price is made available to them.Cox's Bazaar airport's suitability as a tourism hub can hardly be overestimated. Being the doorway to the world's longest Sea-beach, this airport has drawn attention of successive governments for upgrading. There was a hindrance on the runway for proper expansion, because of a creek from the sea and the adjoining river. Now that problem has been solved with new technology being put in place. The airport is destined to be developed at par with Dhaka and Chittagong, being the fourth international airport in the country after Sylhet. The runway is now over nine thousand feet. And it is wider by fifty feet than previously. All these point to suitability of use by wide-bodied aircraft at this airport. This is a sin qua non for large flows of tourists from abroad, which is now only five per cent of the near one hundred thousand per year. About five hundred hotels and motels dot the place. China has pumped in more than USD200 million for various works here. The Sheikh Kamal Cricket Stadium in between all undertakings is a lung of sorts to the crowded city. That open space must be protected at any cost.In the ultimate analysis, its adjoining beach can draw in foreign tourists as well as locals if only the airport is made of international standard.

Lots of improvement needed. The busiest tourist spot of the country needs a much better airport and services along with more connecting flights. Present one does the work.
Overall it's an okay experience,no complaints.

Cox's Bazar International Airport is one of the important Airport in Cox's Bazar state. Most of the tourists from around the world came to this sea beach. Cox's Bazar is the longest sea beach in this whole world. We can attract more tourists to this place. The communication roads and system towards the airport is not to the standard level. Government should take some step to modify this situation.

This is the popular airport in Bangladesh. It has all type of facility for national air travelling passenger.
management good and more concerned to solve problem.
We the people like to journey through the air but due to lack of facility like expensiveness and not enough airport in all over the country
Now government trying to develop this section very quickly but but due to lack of management it delayed
What ever still we love journey by air
And also hope this sector will be best way to drive in our country
We also be helpful to our government that government policy making easy
Airport expansion also done by this government
But this is not a easy tusk to do
Airport police and management authority doing excellent job

Under developed airport but people are trying to render good service. Management should look into the issues of waiting room and washroom cleanliness and hygiene. Otherwise, experience was Okay there.

BTW, experience with Us-Bangla Airways wasn't memorable though.
