যশোরের অর্থনীতির অন্যতম প্রধান নিয়ামক বেনাপোল স্থলবন্দর যা শার্শা উপজেলার সীমান্তবর্তী গ্রাম বেনাপোলে অবস্থিত। ভারত-বাংলাদেশ বাণিজ্যের সিংহভাগ এর মাধ্যমে সংঘটিত হয়। সরকারি আমদানী শুল্ক আহরণে বেনাপোল স্থল বন্দরটির ভূমিকা তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ। এখানকার মানুষের জীবিকার অন্যতম সূত্র বেনাপোল স্থল বন্দরের কাস্টমস্‌ ক্লিয়ারিং এজেন্টের কাজ।বেনাপোল মূলত বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতের সীমান্তবর্তী একটি গ্রাম যেখানে একটি সীমান্ত তল্লাশী ঘাঁটি ও আন্তর্জাতিক স্থল বন্দর অবস্থিত। এই স্থল বন্দরের শুল্ক কার্যক্রম পরিচালনার জন্য রয়েছে বেনাপোল কাস্টমস হাউজ। স্থল বন্দরের কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করে বাংলাদেশ স্থল বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষ। বেনাপোল রেলস্টেশানের মধ্য দিয়ে বাংলাদেশ-ভারত রেল চলাচল অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

বেনাপোলের বিপরীতে ভারতের দিকের অংশটি পেট্রাপোল নামে পরিচিত। এটি পশ্চিম বাংলার বনগাও মহুকুমার অন্তর্ভুক্ত।
বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতের মধ্যকার স্থল বাণিজ্যের প্রধান কেন্দ্র হিসাবে বেনাপোল স্থল বন্দর ব্যবহৃত হয়। বেনাপোল হতে কলকাতা মাত্র ৮০ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত। মোট স্থলবাণিজ্যের ৯০% এই বেনাপোলের মাধ্যমে সংঘটিত হয়ে থাকে।বাংলাদেশ থেকে স্থল পথে ভারত গমনের প্রধান পথ যশোর-বেনাপোল-বনগাঁ-কোলকাতা গ্র্যান্ড ট্রাঙ্ক রোড। এই পথে প্রতিদিন শত শত ভ্রমণকারী চলাচল করে থাকে।

benapole land port is famous for the highest transaction between Bangladesh and India. In each and every day, a lot of peoples and goods are transported by the land port. It is also historical point for liberation war of Bangladesh, when several million of peoples went through the route for saving their life.

Horrible experience!! Totally corrupted and system loss area. Beware from broker. Getting clearance from 2 countries you need more than 2 hours . So my humble request avoid this land port.

Benapole (Bengali: বেনাপোল) is a township in Sharsha Upazila in the Jessore District of Bangladesh. The Petrapole Customs station of India is situated across the border and since 1971 (some sources say 1947), a large number of people have travelled between Bangladesh and India through Benapole Customs station. The railway link between Bangladesh and India through Benapole was discontinued when war broke out between Pakistan and India in September 1965 (during this time, modern day Bangladesh was part of Pakistan, known as East Pakistan). Urbanization of Benapole started in the 1990s along the Grand Trunk Road. In April 1971, the operational area of the sector 8 comprised the districts of Kushtia, Jessore, Khulna, Barisal, Faridpur and Patuakhali. At the end of May the sector was reconstituted and comprised the districts of Kuhstia, Jessore, Khulna, Satkhira and the northern part of Faridpur district. Benapole served as the headquarters of sector 8 in the liberation war.

Such a heavy human traffic. I'd not suggest anyone to travel through this port especially if you are going for inter border tours. You'll have to wait in quueu for hours and you'll see that it's deprived of serious land port developments. Had such a frustrating moments here.

The next uprising port of Bangladesh due to it's crucial geographical location. Being heavily relied on neighboring country (especially on India!) this could be the big next boom for the business sectors of export-import of Bangladesh, concluding a win-win situation for both the countries along sides.
Of course the present availability of luxury can easily be rated 2 star but the cheap expense options of accommodation and meals, may that be commercial purpose or otherwise makes it a foresighted business mans next target to visit!!
