The name 'Alam Nagar ' came from Alam Nagar Dockyard which was established during mid 1960s. The owner of this dockyard was Late Shamsul Alam. He named this area as Alam Nagar. After Mr, Shamsul Alam expires, his elder son Mr. Rafiul Alam took the responsiblity of this dockyard and continue the family business. Later Mr Rafiul Alam's other brothers joined the family business as well. Today in Alam Nagar area there are a number of shopping malls been built and operating here. Some of them are Khaza Super Market, Alam Tower, Alam Shopping Mall, S R Shopping Mall, Mahbum Alam Shopping Complex, Mashiur Alam Market, Zila Parishad Market and many others.
