Beautiful! And great rum! Also the fishcakes were shockingly good. The history of the plantation was played down quite a bit though and the story of the owners a little too played up for me.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour! The landscape is well kept, the staff is friendly and helpful and the complimentary rum didn't hurt the experience at all!

Take a couple minutes walk or drive to Cherry Tree Hill nearby.. the view is ridiculous! 😍

A very well preserved, and recently lived in Jacobean plantation house with working distillery producing high class barrel aged rum.
Looks like it is being improved at a pace with a gully walk just come into operation.
We had a tour with a well informed guide, which included tasting the rum.
In April 2018 when we visited, the price was 45 Bayjun dollars per person so not cheap, but the family really liked it. Pleasant terrace restaurant too. We ended up staying about 3 hours, taking it at a leisurely pace.

Professional, polite and courteous staff. One of three Jacobean style houses remaining in the western hemisphere. The grounds are marvelously maintain and the tour is very interactive. Well worth the visit

Interesting place but rubbish tour.The group size was so big only one third of the people could hear what was said. We wandered off and did our own tour having read all of the information on the website the night before.

Expensive admission charge for the tour you get. Our tour guide seemed more interested in getting us to sample the rum punch and the different rums produced by the family than giving us a tour. At no point did she tell us what was happening in the tour. No one d knew what was happen in the various parts. So when the film dispersed no one came to get us and take us to the distillery and other buildings. So we missed those buildings. We were told "the distillery was on the right and other building and you can go wander to see them." You can only visit the bottom floor. The 2nd floor is offices but the guides don't even describe the rooms when they were actually used by the family.

Great view on the road to the Abbey. I would not waste my time doing this tour. The gift shop is expensive as well.

Make the trip! Well maintained working sugarcane plantation. The historical notes in the brochures are exceptional - be sure to read them cover to cover while you are there. Explore all parts of the property and catch the vintage film.

Fabulous house and gardens. Lovely choice of rum. Wonderful place to have a relaxing lunch.
Sit amongst the mahogany trees with a rum punch and a flying fish sandwich. It doesnt get any better than that!

Lovingly preserved Jacobean house with sugar mill and rum distillery. A must see, visit and experience location for anyone interested in Barbados' sugar history. A true gem of the Caribbean.

I would recommend to go. I come to Barbados often, but the Abbey was a first. Be warned that there is no tour. You walk around on your own with a pamphlet & I think it's expensive (45 Bajan) for not having more explanation than that. I asked a lot of questions and was able to get a little more information. I expected a little more explanation on the rum production process. The rum is excellent though. Bought a 12 year. And the grounds are beautiful.

This place was interesting and had a lot of history well enough described by the staff but you had to ask questions. It would have been very easy to pay $22.50 and gotten nothing but visuals good as they are. What made this experience ok (3 stars) vs 4 was the rum tasting experience. If you expect me to pay hundreds of dollars for a bottle of rum, it needs to prove itself to me. We weren't allowed to sample the 18 tray aged rum. Neither were we able to sample the rum cake. I figure cost of admission should include that given no formal tour. But it's a pretty spot and the staff were friendly. Your mileage may vary

Nice plantation house museum and rum distillery.

Nice tour, staff and owner's are super friendly. They will teach you about the history of the distillery and what makes the rum special there.

You will also be able to see how it is made.

Place is well maintained.

This place is a "must see". Set in beautiful surroundings and steeped in Barbadian/British history dating back some 400 years. The plantation house tour includes a short film, insight to slavery, Rum making and local history. All this is gelled together by curators that are well versed and incredibly vitty. Entrance is $45 BD for adults and worth every cent. The food was good quality and reasonably priced. The Rum they make and sell is a great gift or keep safe, they will even personalise the bottle for you by engraving it (nice little touch!) The highlight of the visit is Simon, he's one of the owners. This guy is incredibly quick witted and he'll have you laughing in seconds.

If you arrived from the West coast direction:

When you leave drive through the gate and turn left. Drive about 100 metres up the hill and you'll find a great surprise!

Visited last week while in Barbados and it was definitely a highlight of our trip. Beautiful grounds!! We so enjoyed meeting and talking to Simon who is one of the owners. The short movie is a must watch. So very interesting!!

St. Nicholas Abbey is a gorgeous plantation. We had a great time walking down the pathways, seeing the old house, and learning about the history of Barbados' economic discovery. The rum is the best.

Small but beautiful with real sense of history. On the day we were there the lady who took the admission fee also provided a really interesting and lively tour.

A very enjoyable couple of hours spent on this beautiful estate towards the north of the Island. A warm welcome from the owners and very friendly service and food from the ladies in the cafe. They will prepare lunch while you look around.

It is the family home, so access to the house is limited, but plenty more to see, including a film from old cine footage, the distillery and gardens. The owner is very keen to chat to visitors and answer any questions.

Included in the price was a rum punch and a rum tasting.

This was a great tour and we really enjoyed it. My favorite part was watching the video about the stable and how they made the wheels for the carriage while sitting in the very stable that was in the video. There was rum tasting and an enjoyable tour of the grounds where you saw items that were used years ago by early barbadians. You were also able to see how the rum is made from the crushing of cane ( only during crop season) to the distillery where the rum was made.This is a must go tour once in the north you will not regret it!
