Historically awesome park

We just visited Sutjeska National Park and thought we'd put up a bit of a report because we also found it very hard to find information. We started off in Tjentiste where you can visit the info centre near Hotel Mladost and see information about the different hikes. You can buy a map or you can just take a photo of the display map and follow the signs once you are in the park. The entrance to the park is from the centre of town and is signed. It cost us 5 marks each and 5 marks for the car to enter.
Many of the more popular hikes start from the Prijevor lookout which is a 20km drive - it's a rough drive that takes about 1-1.5 hours but it is definitely possible in a normal car. The lookout is beautiful and we slept in our camper in the carpark. There are also several small huts for rent that looked really nice. We decided to hike to Trnovacko jezero and it was a well marked and not too difficult (about 1.5-2hrs).
The only issue we had was once we made it down to the lake. We saw signs stating that park fees applied and felt comfortable knowing that we had already paid our entrance. After a quick swim, we started to walk back towards the path to return to our car when a man came out of the small cafe and angrily beckoned us over to him. He shouted at us to show him our passports and pay him money. It turns out that the lake is actually inMontenegro and whether or not he is officially supposed to charge people to hike there, he is. We apologised and explained that we did not realise that we needed to pay or provide our passports and had left them in our car, at which point he became irate and began threatening us with a switchblade knife and trying to take our car keys and bag. We managed to get away from him and ran back up the path.
We have reported this to the National Park and providing that you take your passports and a few euro (1 euro pp according to other people that we spoke to later) you shouldn't have the same problems that we did. We would definitely recommend the National Park - it's beautiful and quiet.response / report this review -

Really beautiful place with amazing nature and diversity. We went walking all the way to Stabna lake in Montengro and back.
