  It is the main mosque of Herzegovina. From the inside, you will see amazing ornaments of ottoman architecture. The tower, that is called ''munara'' provides magnificient view. From it, you see the whole city. The mosque was built in 1567., by Mehmed-karađoz, as ''vakuf'', which means endowment. In Islam, a man receives award after death in three cases: if he has created something useful for the mankind, if he has a child that prays for him, and if he leaves the endowment. He has also put in the endowment ''medresa''(middle school) and a library.

  Lovely mosque with great views from the top of the minaret (which you can climb for a fee). The attendant was very friendly and spent a lot of time telling us about how the mosque works.

  This is the most monumental mosque in Mostar and across Herzegovina.
  
  Under the dome is the elegant stone minaret with stalactite decoration below seref.
  This mosque was built by Mehmed, son of Abu Seadet 965 of the Hegira (1557/58).
  The founder of the mosque was a native from the Potoci in Bijelo polje, located 12 km north of Mostar. He was the brother of Grand Vizier Rustem and Herzegovina governor Sinan, who governed Herzegovina from August 1547 to June 1549. Karađoz Bey died in Mostar around 1564, where he was buried in the graveyard beside his mosque.

  The kind staff will be glad to help you up the minaret, which provides an unobstructed view of the majority of Mostar.

  5KM entrance fee (pay once for mosque and again 5KM for minaret). Closed during prayer time. The wide portico in front provides shade and seats. Damaged extensively during WWII, it had repairs done during 2002-2004 and was reopened.
