  I strongly caution everybody about staying at this hostel. Let's begin with the fact that the administrator of the hostel is a liar and dishonest person. The private room, we booked is awfully stinky, it smells like cellar, no air conditioning despite the fact they promise it on booking - this was one of the reason we booked this room. Baku Old City Hostel didn't want to assume responsibility of the mistake and refused to give us our money back. The women at the reception called the manager, but he didnt want to cancel our booking, so we had to stay there two nights. I feel cheated. The picture of the room on the Internet is marvellous but the reality is totally different. Avoid!

  We spent a few nights at Baku old city hostel. Within this stay, the following problems arose:
  - our double room we reserved was overbooked so we could not sleep in it
  - airconditioning was freezing at first and then stopped working
  - worst of all, they cost us a deportation, more than 24h delay on our trip and 300km detour. They said they'd register us with migration services but didn't. When trying to get help for this they were very reluctant and they still didn't compensate us.
  
  Would NOT recommend this hostel to ANYONE! See other reviews too, people keep being double booked and otherwise scammed.

  My girlfriend and I we stayed four nights at the hostel. From the beginning on, we talked to the girl at the reception, that we needed a registration, because according to the law, if you stay longer than 10 days in the country, you need to register. Normally, the hotel/hostel, where you stay does that for you. But in our case, the reception forgot and then we should contact the owner. Two times we needed to send him pictures of our passport and visa, he said, he would go to the office and handle it. By the time of doing this, we left towards Sheki, still hoping, our registrations would arrive on time, so we can stay longer than only 10 days in the country. After contacting him again and again, we never got anything back, but empty promises. In the end, we didn´t want to risk paying a fine of 150 Euro at the border and we left Azerbaijan on the 10th day.
  The owner really let us down on this one and there is no excuse of "having forgotten it", because we reminded him minimum three times. He simply did not care and played us. So bad, I never understood, why he did not just tell us, we need to do it on our own or whatever, but giving us promises like "tomorrow I´ll send it to you via email".
  Other than that, the hostel was ok, only the girl at the reception was fighting so much with the cleaning lady, every morning she was screaming at her like crazy and we felt very sorry for the lady, who also had to prepare the breakfast. That was tasty, but too late (from 9am till 11am). In summer, it is so hot in Baku and if you want to start your day very early before the midday heat, you should consider eating breakfast somewhere else.

  We had a confirmed booking at this place, but when a larger group wanted to stay there they apparently deleted it and told us that the hostel was full because this big group had just arrived, even though they admitted that we had booked first. They called another hostel where we could stay for a different rate. Can't comment on the hostel itself so the two stars are for the way they handled the situation.

  отличный хостел в самом сердце старого город!!! Мы останавливались в комнате для двоих! было оочень здорово! замечательный хозяин, помогал решить все возникающие вопросы по ориентации на местности! В хостеле были завтраки, это порадовало!!
  Мне только не понравилась газовая колонка в душе. Ну не течет из нее нормальной температуры вода!!! То кипяток, то ледяная. Рекомендую заменить на электрический водонагреватель! я мучилась каждый день! жутко неудобно! но все остальное на отличном уровне! Чисто, уютно, интерьер передает местную культуру! Молодец!1 Рекомендую всем!

  A very clean and nice hostel. Offers you excellent facilities like free WiFi and hot shower. Breakfast quality is also good.
