Went kite surfing for my first time here while staying at the Tradewinds Club at the Marriott Stolaris Resort. The kite surfing lessons are a bit pricey, but I was so glad to try it since I've always wanted to do it. Abigail at the front desk was super a helpful and all my I were top notch. Definitely recommend this place if you're visiting on vacation.

Very friendly Abigale on reception and kite instructors ( they give you instructions, which you must follow for your own safety!) Josh and Max, they know what they doing. Also they have pedalboards.

Very basic windsurfing lesson not taking the whole hour and no additions tips or help with the boards, staff seemed uninterested

Written from a windsurfing perspective- They have the best kit in the bay for sure but there are a couple of issues. Firstly the position of the centre means that you are in a huge wind shadow and have to walk your kit for a good 10 minutes each way which eats into your time on the water and makes kit changes a pain.

The bigger issue however is the lack of attention to safety - having been a water sport instructor in the past the number one concern was safety. This week a fellow windsurfer lost his fin out to sea and was on his board making the distress signal for a solid 15 minutes plus and no one at Vela noticed.

I got to shore as fast as I could (which per point one takes a while) and when I reported the issue they made jokes about it and showed no interest in rescuing the stranded windsurfer. Bearing in mind there are strong off shore breezes here in palm beach this is unacceptable both in the fact they have no one watching the water and that they didn't rush to help.

Luckily another centre sent a boat and rescued the sailor who upon his return was very reasonably upset and angry to which the staff made more snarky comments and did little to appease.

It's a shame because it's an easy fix to do safety right but without this, even with the best kit this centre isn't a good choice for anyone.
