Honeymooned here in 2011. Loved it! Food was great, all the different restaurants were really nice. Liquor in room was very cheap at the time but to be expected.

Everything was great except for the beds which are hard as a rock. I asked the maid if there was anything she could do and she said no. Trying to enjoy this beautiful resort is meaningless if your walking around like a sleep deprived zombie.

My husband and I booked our wedding here at the RIU and boy did we ever regret it, and so did our 50 guests. 8 of us stayed for 2 weeks and the rest stayed for 1 week this November. We did a destination wedding to avoid stress and hassle but that is all we got at this hotel.
I don’t even know where to begin. We had so many issues that it incredible that this hotel is still in business. We picked the RIU Palace as we believed that it was a 5 star hotel and will be able to accommodate all our 50 guests without any problems.10 Rooms out of the 24 we had booked needed to be change, some up to 4 times for various reason.
Flooding (water leakage from their ceiling)Cockroaches - Mold - Wet beds - Broken amenities (broken shower doors, handles, phones, fridges, air condining, light fixtures, etc.) -Deplorable smell – one room smelled like chlorine and to musty to bear.
Management was not willing to handle the issue and make it right for the customers. Their excuse was the building was full and they wanted a different room they had to pay the upgrade fee. My cousin is also allergic to mold and could tell that as soon as he walked into the second room he was put into (as first room was very run down) that there was a mold issue. He was coughing immediately as he stepped into the room. Front desk told them they had to pay upgrade fee if they wanted to be moved again. These are only a couple of examples as if we list all the review would be way too long. Many of the rooms had issues with flooding, and water leakage, the elevator was also flooded and one whole building was operating with 1 elevator. There was mold and large water spots in the main dining hall and the spa. The whole 9th floor got flooded. In our view a true five star hotel should not have any of these problems but if it did they should be able to accommodate their guests and resolve the issues without getting the bride and groom involved to make it right. We also want to note that generally we are easy going people and can understand that there may be issues with one or 2 rooms but over half our wedding party had multiple issues. Bartenders and wait staff at bar and restaurant would give attitude if not tipped daily. I know this as we tipped periodically but still got bad attitude from people when we didn’t. We waited for 1 hour for our food in one of the a la carte restaurants and people that were seated 30 minutes after us got served first. My husband went to complain to the manager about the issues we were having. After my husband explained all the issues we were having the managers response was that Riu Palace has the highest customer satisfaction. She did not address or give resolution to any of the problems we were having and ended up giving attitude and raising her voice as we were not happy that no one was willing to assist us. My husband told the general manager Vanessa that they had basically ruined this whole experience for me (the bride) and she did not give any reaction to him. She again told him that Riu Palace is rated highest in customer satisfaction and again did not present us with any reasonable resolution for our issues. The hotel tried to charge us about an extra $2,000 for our wedding that was not discussed at all before we landed.i can write many more paragraphs about how frustrating this whole experience was I hope people understand that no bride should ever have to deal with this kind of stress when doing a destination wedding. Aruba is a beautiful island but we will never come back to the Riu Palace Aruba

If I could give it no stars I would… Firstly, let me start by saying I NEVER WRITE REVIEWS but for this matter I felt it was important other travelers didn't have once in a lifetime memories ruined by this hotel the way I did. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL! I have been to 2 star holiday inns that are better than this. I wrote a long note to the hotel. As a follow up to the note, RIU reached back out to me offering their apologies and 3,000 rewards point if I signed up to their hotel reward program! They had the nerve to provide me a link to a rewards program for everything I went through on my honeymoon! what a joke! What should have been offered was an opportunity to redo my honeymoon or a full refund for all of the hassles I faced. Everyday of this trip was a nightmare, from breaking and entering, to the flood to the cockroaches….I am WARNING YOU STAY AWAY! In addition the hotel is old and smells- both of the rooms I stayed in smelled like mildew! It was by far the worst stay of my life. My husband and I saved for two years to go on this trip and we will need to save again to actually be able to afford a trip like this again…BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!
