I had a reservation with a different company, however Jay's rep was there by the airport and offered a much better price. After reading reviews on line I agreed to go with them. I had no problems with the service or the car. Shuttle drove us to the off airport location and on the way back owner drove us back in the car we rented. All went well as expected. Next time I am calling them first.
My sister and I visited Aruba for the first time this year and we looked for a car rental because we didn’t want to rely on the taxis or public transportation in a place we are unfamiliar with. So we went with Jay’s. I am on the fence about this company, I’m only giving it 3/5 because I can’t give it a 2.5. I’ll list the pros and cons.
Pros: the car we were given was very clean inside and out. It ran good on gas, so we didn’t have to constantly stop for gas. Jay’s was one of the more affordable car rentals from the airport with a reasonable hold. They were also one of the few that let us rent at our age (we are under 25).
Cons: not more so with the car, but the company. We decided to stay an extra night on the island & my sister was told that we would be charged an extra $55 which she had agreed to. They ended up charging us $75 instead of the agreed $55. Not only that, but they took the money out of the wrong account. Secondly, they never cleared the hold. The hold had to be cleared by my bank. For that, I give Jay’s 2.5 stars because they like to play with your money. Also, the car we were given was at least 7 years old. And then we agreed to have the car back by 6:30am since our flight was a 9:15am. We got there before 6am calling to let them know we had the car. No one answered. We called both numbers that are given on the receipt, each went to voicemail or “couldn’t be completed as dialed”. It wasn’t until 6:55 that the boss answered the phone claiming he’ll be there in 5minutes. He came around 7:30am with the slightest of apologies... so yeah 2.5 stars.
This is a great rental car company on Aruba. It was very easy getting the rental car and dropping it off again. The car was reliable and clean. We got a very good rate even though it was the only car they had left to rent.
I was told that all cars were 3 years or newer. Took transfer from the airport as was given a 6 year old Mitsubishi Lancer stick shift in fairly rough shape. I’m pretty hard to rattle, so no big deal just go with the flow I’m on vacation. They told they were out of cars and this is the best they could do. I was told later by locals that the car they gave me did not have the rental car plates on it. Anyway, things go fine. I drive the car very little, but on the evening of 3rd day, the car won’t start when we try to go out to dinner. We’re on the northeast side of island, so they can’t come until tomorrow. We’re not near a restaurant, we eat chicken noodle soup for dinner - not what we were looking for. They say they are coming the next morning between 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. to fix or trade cars out. They finally show at 10:20 a.m. After working on the car for about 75 minutes, I ask about the trade out car. They finally agree to let me take the little old micro Hyundai they drove out in. Definitely not a comparable car, but at least I’m moving. Missed the whole morning of planned snorkeling at Mangel Halto because of this. Said they would bring a replacement car that afternoon. Finally called back and said I should just keep it 2 more days as they didn’t have any other cars. I know Aruba is a tough and popular car rental market, but this was beyond poor. They did offer minor credit when I returned the micro car, but it really did not come close to making up for the several inconveniences we had to experience. All you want to do on vacation is have fun and relax. This did not help with that and I would not use them again.
Jays is a really good rental place. Super nice guys and gals. And they are all friendly!
Best place to get a solid car or truck. Very reliable.
We have been coming to Aruba since 1992. Most of the cars available for rent here would never even be considered rent worthy in the States. Jay's is by far the best that we have ever used. The car was clean yet did not stink of detailing and everything worked the way it should. The slight inconvenience of them not being at the airport (they're five minutes from it and will pick you up when they say) will not detract from their service. Plus all the airport rentals carry a fee that is passed on to the consumer. We have used all the others. After going to Jay's, there is no reason to consider going elsewhere.
Jays is a really good rental place. Super nice guys and gals. And they are all friendly!
Jay's guys were very courteous and prompt. Pricing was very reasonable, and hotel delivery and pickup was included. They also allowed us to take their jeep to the natural pool. Couldn't have asked for more.
We've been renting from Jay's Car Rental every year we visit the Caribbean paradise Aruba. From the time our bags clear customs, getting picked up at airport by Jay's shuttle, receiving the rental (we use a jeep), and arriving at our Palm Beach hotel, we are already parked and in lobby within 40 minutes! Done this a few times and know the roads. We logged over 1500 km in 2 weeks and have swam / snorkeled many reefs, visited and hiked just about every known and unknown place on the Island, and each year we love, and see more of, Aruba more and more thanks to the dependable transportation of Jay's.
Our experience with Jay's was unexpected. We originally rented from a "big name" company and we were very disappointed. I discovered Jay's because no other rentals had a 4-Door car available. The salesman told me the price of the car for 8 days, extra cost for carseat and that he'd drop us at the airport. They gave us a very nice carseat for my 2yr old son, the other company gave us a carseat that was missing clips... Jay's price was competitive and they have a good amount of personel on site. Every person i spoke to called me sir and understood/spoke English well. They did not throw any ridiculous fees at me or force me into extra insurance.
I have nothing negative to say about my transaction with them. I will be recommending them and will be using them in the future.
Jay's was a great experienced for me, I went to Aruba for first time without know about anything of the placed, when I got there I realized that to enjoy the island 100 %, I need a car, so I have a friend who called jay's, and exactly 15 min later, they were in my apartment picking me up, took me to their office, and I want an economic rental, but they didn't have any, so they gave me a better car for the same price, they gave me a Hyundai Accent 2015, well care, very clean, and with a great AC which is something that you need in this island, the car has 44121 Km, at the moment I pick up, so with this car, I travel the whole island which from point to point is like 35 min, so I went to the best places without paying one more cent, because the tours are very expensive. I enjoy the island fully one because my hosts in the apartment, and the other part because the car I rented in Jay's, so my experience was really good, and I will come back to them next time, price good, and at least my car was clean and working fine. My only advice is that you should download the app MAP.ME for mobility, because it's an offline maps app, which drive me around with not problem, and help me to get wherever I want to go, it works like an GPS.
My other advise is always have in mind, that don't matter how good is the island, be ready for an island, if you go thinking that Aruba is USA still, you won't feel good.
Rented from Jay's this past week while in Aruba. They were a little slow to respond to emails but were on time with the pick up of the shuttle even after our 1st flight got kicked to a 9pm landing. He even called to check in to make sure we landed and coordinated where we were in the airport. The car was in very clean condition but the typical $200 for cleaning if sand is found in the car was a little bit of a put off. We tried 4 different places to get the car cleaned before drop off but no one took credit card and we didn't have enough cash on hand to get it washed. He waived the cleaning fee for us which was nice. The car wasn't in bad shape, just residue from parking under trees and normal sand from a typical day at the beach. The car was basic but perfect for what we needed. Price was good as well for 7 days. I'd use Jay's again and would recommend them to friends and family.
I have rented from Jays a bunch of times. No issues , cars decent, and the price is reasonable. Overall everything is very good with jays.
Their rental location is offsite, (not at the airport) Rented a tiny 4 door car. It had a wiggle in the steering over 60km/hr, was a little dirty, but got decent gas mileage and was cheap! Pretty much got exactly what I expected! ($200/week)
Worst place. Stay away! Sold our reservation to a more convenient customer the day of, with no notice.and ruined a perfectly planed day.
Super quick, super easy. They really liked that we got the car washed before we returned it. They also drove us to the airport afterwards. Pro tip: take photos of the entire car before you leave so that they can't charge you for something you didn't do.
Picked us up at airport on time.Rented an economy Hyundai I10.
Car had 77000 miles on it . Seats were torn.
Outside of car was beat up
Seems because we booked at the last minute during a busy period we received the runt of the litter.
I do want to say when we returned the car they did have more cars available that looked in way better condition
They are easy to deal with just hope you are a little luckier with the car you get
Was a little apprehensive when a guy approached me outside the airport from Jays to rent a vehicle since I didn't recognize the name. I had done my research so knew what price range I was looking for and some other questions I needed answered. I wanted a Jeep and they had a 2016 hard top available for the week (only had 4500km on it). They were about 1km away the airport but shuttled us there. The price was lower than any of the "name brand" places and the vehicle was much newer than most of them were offering. I would definitely use them again.
My hotel arranged a rental from Jay's... the price was reasonable for an economy car. The car itself wasn't anything to write home about... it looked to be about 7 years old and showed every sign of its age. The interior looked and smelled old and there were several cosmetic dings and scratches on the outside. If you're coming from the States and expecting a newer rental... you're in for a surprise. That aside, the car got me where I needed to go during my 5 day visit.
As far as the service, I didn't experience any of the Aruban friendliness that people rave about... everyone at Jay's seem focused on just doing their job, which is fine. When I dropped the car off, a man came out, checked the car over and told me they would take me back to the airport in the same car. He went inside for a moment, came back out, hopped in the driver's seat, drove me to the airport (which is a few minutes from Jay's), took my bag out of the trunk, and drove off... without saying a word to me. Again, he did his job, but it was clear that was all he was willing to do. Maybe he was having a bad day.
Jay's is fine if you're needing a cheap car that gets you where you need to go... just don't expect a nice car or for the employees to be nice to you.
