Munro Respiratory Services delivers mandatory silica awareness training to businesses throughout NSW, supporting high-risk industries such as mining, drilling, quarrying, tunnelling, construction, demolition, stone masonry, stone fabrication, hydraulic fracturing, exploration, manufacturing and foundries. Under the NSW Work Health and Safety Regulation, workers involved in processing or at risk of exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) have been required to complete approved training since 1 September 2024.
Led by experienced trainers, the course addresses all 11 required compliance criteria. Topics include recognising RCS-related health risks, understanding the signs and symptoms of silicosis, reading safety data sheets, meeting respiratory protective equipment (RPE) requirements under AS/NZS 1715:2009, and understanding requirements for silica risk control plans and air monitoring under WHS regulations.
Sessions take approximately one hour and can be completed remotely or delivered on-site. Workers receive training records upon successful completion. While silica awareness training is generally a one-off requirement for each worker, businesses must retain training records for the duration of employment in high-risk roles and for five years afterwards.
For added convenience, Munro Respiratory Services can combine silica awareness training with respiratory fit testing on the same day, helping businesses address both requirements efficiently. Pricing starts from $75 per person excluding GST, with separate travel costs quoted for face-to-face sessions.
Munro Respiratory Services provides on-site respirator fit testing for businesses throughout NSW, servicing a wide range of industries including mining, drilling, quarrying, tunnelling, construction, demolition, stone masonry, stone fabrication, hydraulic fracturing, exploration, manufacturing, and foundries. Under the NSW WHS Regulation, employees exposed to silica dust and other hazardous airborne particles are required to undergo fit testing before first use, then annually thereafter.
The company offers two fit testing methods. Qualitative fit testing (QLFT) involves a pass/fail assessment using a bitter-tasting test agent, and is commonly applied to half-face respirators such as P2 and N95 masks. Quantitative fit testing (QNFT) uses the AccuFit 9000 Pro to measure particle concentration and produce a precise fit factor score, and is generally selected for full-face respirators or situations calling for a higher degree of accuracy.
Each session takes roughly 15 minutes per worker and is carried out fully on-site. Digital fit test certificates are provided, and automated reminders are issued ahead of each employee's next annual test, allowing businesses to maintain compliance with minimal administrative effort. Fees start from $100 per person (excl. GST), a day rate applies for groups of 30 or more, and travel costs for face-to-face sessions are quoted separately.
