What is MLV soundproofing, and how does it work??
Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) is a sheet of vinyl that is mixed with natural mineral salts to create a high mass product. This high mass in a thin and flexible sheet make Mass Loaded Vinyl an incredibly effective and versatile product to block sound waves and minimize noise transmission.

How Does MLV Work?

Sound waves are essentially energy. When this energy encounters a barrier like a wall or ceiling, it passes through by vibrating the particles in the wall. These particles then vibrate the particles in the air on the other side of the wall and the sound is heard.

The more ‘wall’ there is, the more energy is required to pass through and the less energy available to vibrate the air on the other side. So, the more ‘mass’ the wall has, the harder it is for sound to pass through. By adding Mass Loaded Vinyl to the wall, you significantly increase it’s mass and effectively reduce the sound that will pass through.
