I visited this magical land back in 1986, as part of (an eventual 9 months) tour of Australia. My then girlfriend and I had bought a car in Melbourne, a 1966 Ford Falcon estate. We then drove almost 16000 miles through Australia.
Our visit here was one of the highlights of our trip, although back then Ularu was not ruined by commercialism. Even so, the throngs of tourists were astonishing, all clambering over the sacred rock and ignoring posted requests to avoid photography.
I spoke to an old Aboriginal lady from The Nation, who told me about the special significance this place held in their identity and beliefs. It was a MOST humbling experience to hear her story of their dreamtime.
Climbing the rock is no longer allowed, but it is a must visit place. Be prepared to leave a small part of you behind, it will stay with you forever.response / report this review -

For me, it's the highlight of Australia, this is a beautiful national park which is really well kept. Both the Uluru and the Kata Tjuta are impressive and full of history and traditions.
The two mains attractions have nicely marked trails which allows visitors to admire those rocks/mountains.
The visitor center is one of the best I've seen, with a lot of relevant informations and documentaries.
A guided visit might be really useful to have a better understanding of the aboriginal culture and of the importance of this place.response / report this review -

Great place to visit. The heart of Australia definitely. During summer months the heat is terrible (40 °C) and if rained recently there is heaps of flies. During winter is much better visiting. You should not leave Australia without spending 3-4 days here and do a proper tour. Magical place.

One of the most beautiful places to visit in the world! If you have the chance to get a tour to Uluru in the morning and do the walk around (about 12km) I highly recommend you to take the chance! Always carry water with you at all time and be aware of the flies in the summer.
