I have made a couple of visits to this restaurant and everytime i left with the feeling that i neex to make my visits more frequent. The sunday buffet is a fantastic culinary experience. Real authentic Indian food. Tbe entertainment on special days like mothers day is fantastic. Able to hold a decent crowd for a function. Nalin the owner is a fantastic individual who keeps a close eye on things so that service levels are maintained.

I organised a lunch function for my Mum's birthday here and in the lead up to the event everything seemed fine, but on the day we received horrible service, the owner was very rude and the communication was very poor.

While the majority of guests enjoyed the food, which I must admit was tasty, we did ask for all dishes to be mild, however there were a couple that were very very spicy that kids could not eat and even some adults.

I was under the impression there would be a person at the bar serving drinks, but on the day I was told that I would have to do this myself. When a bar person was put on, they tried to charge guests for drinks even though I said I would pay for all drinks at the end of the function (the owner was aware of this). Guests commented on the lengthy wait time for drinks.

When organising the event, I was told that the kitchen staff could cut and serve the birthday cake, but when I arrived in the morning to drop the cake off I was told we would have to do this ourselves. In the end, the owner agreed to cut the cake (which they did a terrible job).

In terms of cleanliness and presentation, there was very little care. The cake table cloth was dirty and very creased, this was obvious to the owner but I had to follow it up with them to fix up. There were holes in the chair covers and one chair was unstable so I had it removed. All the highchairs were filthy, we had to ask staff to clean the table tops so kids could sit at them.

We were told there would be papadums on the table for guests upon arrival, but this was not done. Towards the end of the event we felt very rushed as the staff wanted to start cleaning up and to get us out of the function room, even though we had asked to stay until 4.30pm.

During the function the owner stood at the back of the room with his arms folded looking across the room. It was very unprofessional and some guests commented on how unpleasant it was to see.

I wouldn't recommend Shavans and won't be going back again under the current management.

Tiny portions and very expensive for what you get. Deeply disappointing. They were rude when we mentioned the food portions were a little small.

Not good not at all good. I had biryani over here and its not a biryani at all more of its a pulav.
Very expensive one roti $4.5 and 1 samosa $5.really damn expensivenot worth at all.
I want to give half star but i cant

Seriously you need to take out Indian from your menu.

Please reconsider change your menu name the biryani as pulav or go to a south indian restaurant to taste a biryani.

One can't expect anything better. The very best food and service in town. The boss, Nalian is a down to earth and lovely person to deal with. Would recommend this restaurant to all Australians.

Wonderful food and lovely service! Had the buffet on Sunday and was very impressed with the food (I am South Indian). I've had a lot of South Indian food in Melbourne and this has to be one of the best. Looking forward to the next visit.

Early Valentine's Day dinner with my wife and decided to try a new restaurant. The place was fully booked out and there is no surprise as to why. Food was delicious and even though it was crowded the service was wonderful. Thank you for such a great experience

Went to celebrate my wife's birthday last night. Best Indian food we have had in Melbourne. Superb lamb vindaloo and tandoori chicken. One of the staff must have overheard it was my wife's birthday because the manager surprised us by playing happy birthday and bringing a dessert to the table. Excellent service and experience. Will go again
