Attended what was supposed to be a Melbourne Cup. It was the worst I have ever attended . No best dress or best hat for men or women. Had to ask if there were any sweeps. Could not hear the Melbourne Cup race the volume was so soft. Was considering have work Christmas lunch but a bit affraid

Before I came here, I've heard this restaurant is the best in Newcastle where people can also enjoy the view of the river, actually this place is located on the water. Yeah, literally, we enjoyed here.

The service is great, very friendly staff. Plenty of room around your table. Healthy menu, lots of fruit and seafood on the platters and the view over the harbour tops it off nicely👍

While service is good, the medium rare steak that I asked for was less than rare. It was almost red. I regret not taking a picture of it. I couldn't make it past half way. It was making me ill. My partner had the seafood platter and that didn't go down very well either. When I sent it back, the kitchen & the waitress acknowledged it but the manager did not want to resolve the situation and offered us nothing. Very big disappointment from Scratchleys. Waste of money, first and last time. Being on Honeysuckle Drive, they're right down the road, but I'm always going to look the other way. Never again, even if it's free.

Menu needs an urgent refresh. For a seafood restaurant seafood isn't that good. Great views.

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Scratchleys. This restaurant exceeded our expectations and we were thrilled with our meals. Service was friendly and professional, wait staff were prompt with refilling glasses and taking orders. Oysters were ok at $20 for a half dozen. The mains really stood out, seared tuna steak on a spicy Asian noodle salad was refreshing and I world recommend it. A beautiful place to spend a scenic evening eating on the water, prices were a little above expectations.

Good food options. Pricing reasonable for a location like this one. Spectacular views over the harbour.

    Overall, Lovely.

In depth: First impressions were great, lovely looking restaurant however the waitress who greeted us looked like she was going to throw the menu at us but probably being professional.

However, the table service was excellent and our waitress answered loads of silly questions and topped up our wine at perfect moments.

Onto the food, it was absolutely fantastic. I got the grilled seafood platter and it was just amazing. Having never had oysters before, I was instantly turned and the waitress even let me get 3 different kinds and they were all tasty.

My partner got the risotto , which he enjoyed but felt it was slightly small and lack-luster in comparison to my platter. However, he was aware it is a lot cheaper than said platter. Which, leads us onto the price. Comparatively, the platter was extremely good and was worth th price while the risotto was just not reaching it's standards.

Would definitely go again. This time I'm looking forward to lobster season.

    Nikki and James.

We arrived for my husbands birthday dinner and he was really looking forward to a seafood platter. After ordering we were advised that this expensive and highly rated seafood restaurant had run out of prawns at lunch time. The seafood basket arrived without oysters and more likely resembled a fruit platter with a little seafood. The oysters were provided after speaking to the wait staff. I believe that if you are charging $140 or so dollars for a meal them you owe it to your customers to ensure that you have all of the ingredients. They did offer extra balmain bugs but we did not seem to think that they provided it. The other 2 meals were very delicious, however, I do think that they were overpriced. The staff, all but one were polite and friendly. I did notice that the table near us did not seem that impressed either. It was the first time that I have been to this restaurant and maybe I need to give it another try?
