We were hesitant in dining at Outback Jacks after reading some reviews but we gave it a go and we didn’t regret this at all.
The service was very friendly and perfect and the atmosphere in the restaurant was superb.
Menu - many items to chose from and prices were pretty good too.
Food - the four of us had a good selection of food. Crocodile and kangaroo skewers (amazing) garlic bread (delicious) Chicken schnitzel (tender and perfectly cooked) Spicy chicken burger (beautiful) Bara Burger (really nice) Caesar Salad (very filling and tasty).
A few cold beers set off the meal along with their house red.
It was a little warm in there but the climate in Cairns would have played a massive part in that but there was a slight cool breeze coming through the doors and windows and the restaurant had fans going to help take the heat away.
All in all it was a very delicious meal, very fast service and I will be going back next time I visit Cairns.
I will highly recommend Outback Jacks and please do try the crocodile.
Worst restaurant in Cairns.
How this place is in business is beyond me Horrible quality, terrible service, and kitchen can’t keep track of tickets. Poor quality aside, which is below the level of prison food, this restaurant is simply terrible. The space would be better used as a car park than as a restaurant. Kitchen messed up our order, not that big s deal. What did arrive was truly stomach churning. Most expensive cut cut on the menu was the cheapest cut of beef I’ve ever seen in a restaurant.
Outback Jacks is a waste of a great location. Their business model relies on ignorant tourists buying their subpar food (it’s a stretch to call it food). Oh, and masochists I’m sure the self loathing community loves Outback Jacks.
Heed my advice, don’t take the chance like I did. This place is absolutely terrible by every measure.
That said, if you’re looking for a terrible dining experience with poor service and disgusting food, then this is the restaurant for you.
Although the service was good I was very disappointed with the Surf and Turf I ordered. I paid $39.95 for a small dry piece of steak that had 2 prawns and barely any sauce. For that price you would expect a decent meal. Very disappointed.
Would not return, order slow cooked bourbon pork ribs and they have no glaze, they say it is cooked in glaze yet there is zero glaze on them when I receive them. The T-bone steak meal came with just chips when their menu says it comes with a salad. All in all a poor presentation of what should have been a good meal. You can get better meals from your local footy club.
The food was absolutely delish and the service was great! The lovely girl that waited on us had a great chat with my husband and I! The servings of food that you get are reasonably priced. I'm not really a big eater, so I was able to take some back to our room in a "doggy bag". I recommend this place for sure!
Good place to off the main esplanade. not crowded or loud. Good wait staff
Not a fussy eater, but the only flavour my medium cooked steak had was the taste of pure char. It was so overwhelming that I could only eat half. Mentioned it to staff when paying the bill, but he didn't seem to care. Not even an apology was offered. Won't be returning.
Terrible service. Myself and my girlfriend stopped here last week. She ordered a burger and I ordered a few sides (bacon, jalapeno peppers, chips and sauce) as I can't eat bread. My girlfriends food eventually came while I was still waiting. I asked the waitress about my food and she said a mistake had been made and my food was put into my girlfriends burger. She said we would need to scrape the jalapeno peppers and bacon off the burger, put it on a separate plate, and return it to the kitchen or else we would need to pay for it. I told her that was not going to happen, that I would not open my girlfriends burger and start digging around in it, that it was the restaurants mistake not ours. She said that the sauce would definitely need to be paid for as we were " taking advantage of the situation" and we "must have known a burger and fries doesn't come with a side of sauce". I asked to speak to the manager and was shocked to hear she was the manager. I explained that you can't tell a customer to scrape extras off a burger, and that the sauce was 3 dollars, why would you talk to a customer so badly for 3 dollars!!! She said the customer was not always right, that she doesn't care if we never come back, and to " have a good day" with a smug grin on her face. I don't know how this women still has a job with her attitude and I can't understand how this restaurant is still open with staff like that. It seems 90% of the reviews here are bad for food as well as service and I can see why. Stay away!!!
The restaurant was quiet when we sat down and it took 15 minutes for us to be served. The drinks came out in a decent time frame and we finished them as the meals came out. We ordered 2 more drinks as the food arrived and never saw them. Our empty glasses sat at the side of the table for the rest of the meal, with none of the staff asking if we would like another.
My partner and I expected to try 4 or 5 cocktails that night and unfortunately the service was too poor to even try two.
The food was tasty, just terrible service.
Nice service, good food, a little bit expensive and they forgot to give us knives and forks. But nothing bad and it was very tasty. :)
I had the lump of rump with the baked potato , it was good not great but my wife however had the sparrow steak which was supposed to be med - rare but was cooked more well done. Her chips tasted like they had been cooked at least twice. We ordered garlic bread which never arrived. Ordered a bottle of sparkling moscato which we had to pour ourselves. No one came near the table until we were leaving. So overall was very disappointed with the experience.
Food is a little pricey and it's just alright. The service was very nice. You can hear and see the bats across the street screeching their little hearts out which is entertaining.
We enter in the restaurant looking for an offer that included burger, We order as well a salad. After be served the drinks, we saw the person who was serving our table talking with other person of the staff, and after that, he came and said that the offer is for early in the day when you can see clear in the advertisement that there is no restrictions of time in the offer. We had to order drinks that cost us double prize. We didn't want to argue but it was an unexpected bad experience comparing to all that we have got all through Australia.
Wait staff were friendly but little lacking. Let down further by steaks that were tough as a boot. Highly recommend if you need a new pair of leather shoes to visit here n order a steak.
Cocktails tasted watered down.
