Would not recommend. I was referred to Monica Falk after experiencing extreme/painful all over itching. During the appointment I was not referred for additional tests but instead was told I likely had 'Urticaria' or unexplained itching and if it didn't resolve I had a few options including taking antihistamines or in a more severe case, Xolair (studies show it has serious side effects). There was no interest in addressing the root cause and I was quite disappointed to get no answers or further testing despite paying $450. I ended up seeing a functional doctor and was immediately diagnosed with histamine intolerance which is common with Celiac Disease and a rather simple diagnosis. I'm still rather surprised that an allergist/immunologist didn't test or try to rule out histamine intolerance. Interesting to see that another patient here has had almost the IDENTICAL experience. I was also told that a food intolerance/histamine issue would cause my face to swell up. What started as itching for me progressed into other symptoms until I found an answer from a functional doctor. The experience was a total waste of time and stressful to be told I potentially had chronic urticaria when in fact it was histamine intolerance.
UPDATE 19 April 2022: Warning: DO NOT see this allergy specialist! Dr Falk informed me she is NOT a dermatologist even though her website claims speciality skin care treatments. Additionally, she talked AT me for a minimum of 45 minutes without LISTENING to why I was there; I wanted a skin allergy test performed as that's what she offers on her website. She refused to do an allergy test and told me food allergies don't show up on the skin but rather 'your throat will close and you will end up in hospital.'
I told her my legs itch until I bleed and she insisted I use a steroid cream rather than finding the ROOT CAUSE of my constant itch. *UPDATE* My functional medicine doctor, Dr Tendek, found the ROOT CAUSE of my itchiness. I would strongly urge you to see a functional medicine doctor or real dermatologist before booking an appt with Dr Falk.
Dr Faulk is truly a Western trained medicine doctor with one mission: to prescribe pharmaceuticals. Additionally, I was never given a quote for a first time patient and I couldn't believe the $450 bill after the appointment. If I wanted a lecture of how to 'cure eczema with pharmaceuticals' I would have watched a YouTube video.
She then proceeded to write out three prescriptions and divulged her software didn't have the technical ability to create electronic prescriptions. How is a medical clinic STILL writing paper prescriptions during the middle of a PANDEMIC?
Dr Faulk might be an allergy specialist, but she is a lecturer first and foremost. I would recommend you seek out a certified dermatologist before ever stepping foot in Dr Faulk's outdated clinic as you'll receive poor bedside manners from a woman who has an agenda.
Dr Falk was very informative and friendly. However for some odd reason the receptionist was quite rude on the way out after we paid. I asked a question about the medicare rebate which she had apparently repeated to which she aggressively responded "didnt you hear what I said?" It took us a moment (I was there with my grown up kids) a minute to process the comment outside but we decided to return and cancel the subsequent appointment because of this.
This has been the best medical experience of my life.
Dr Falk explained to me what 3 doctors and 5 dermatologists couldn't.
She made sure to not send me for any unnecessary tests, was diligent and thorough, and very clear where she could and could not help, what her expertise is and what I should talk to other experts about.
If you think you have an allergy, I can not recommend her highly enough
Dr Falk is amazing and helped immensely with my baby allergies and intolerances. She quickly picked up on the issue which went unnoticed by several GPs and midwives.
The team at the office is also great and very helpful. I highly recommend this practice.
