I am writing this recommendation based on my supervision and training experience with Carolyn Midwood through my work as a counsellor and retreat owner.

Carolyn (and the Metro team) is/ are professional, approachable, knowledgeable and most importantly, empathetic, compassionate and down to earth. Carolyn has been a great support to me as a supervisor. She is always ready to listen and provide advice if and where required. The supervisor training I undertook at Metro Counselling with Carolyn was on point and her teaching style makes learning easy, informative and enjoyable.

Carolyn is also extremely effective in assisting individuals, couples, kids, teens, FIFO workers, families all deal with and work through the stresses, pressures and challenges of modern day living.

I have recommended a number of our guests who require ongoing support to see Metro Counselling because I believe that Carolyn's counselling approach and style is second to none.

    Kind regards

I just wish to let people know that I did not have a positive experience here with an Aussie counselor with a postgrad diploma. I found her to be one-sided in the treatment session and biased as she took one person's side over the other but denied it when I confronted her. I have had a lot of experience with counselors but this has had to be one of my worst experiences. The counselor was totally inexperienced in my view with dealing relationship conflict. After paying $165, I had to spend another 2 hours being abused by my partner after the session and calming things down- this should not be one's experience after a counseling session. I do not recommend this place as I found the counselor non-impartial and imposes her own personal view without staying neutral or asking the people in the treatment session what they want- she tells them what she thinks they should do without asking them what they think is best. I also wish to say that Aus tends to be a bit sexist and women tend to take the side of men which happened in my session. Be careful if you are someone from outside the culture, esp a woman, as I found the counselor lacking in multicultural competency and supportive of serial monogamy rather than trying to keep a couple together who wishes to try to work things out but having difficulties. Need-less-to-say, one should not feel that they went from the boiling pan to the frying pan after a counselling session, which I certainly did and their motto was false for me "Ultimately, our aim is to leave you feeling empowered to achieve more, and ready to tackle new challenges with strength and confidence, no matter what your individual circumstances may be." I actually was rather disempowered from the therapy here.
Re the owner's response - This was definitely the place I had a bad experience with and I put in a complaint but had 2 choices which I did not agree to as I was not comfortable and they were not advantageous to me. sorry but people have a right to not disclose all their details online- seems like this clinic has no sensitivity towards people's human rights and try to downplay or brush-off their shortcomings. I have learned one thing- that many counselors have a long way to go regarding ethics and client-centered services. Rather they take a hierarchical role and dictate rather than guide or ask proper questions- no wonder the aboriginals have had a lot of difficulties with this attitude as the counseling services are not even holistic for a start- at least at this centre and probably many other places in Aus as the requirements and standards for providing counseling services appear low. Cheers!

I have recommended a number of my clients to see Metro Counselling because in my opinion they are the best counsellors in Western Australia.

Carolyn and the team are professional, approachable, knowledgeable and most importantly, extremely effective in assisting individuals, couples, kids, teens, FIFO workers, families all deal with and work through the stresses, pressures and challenges of modern day living.

    I don't recommend anyone else!
